with, say, sub-$1000 receivers and sub-$1500 speaker setups is this a HUGE improvement over typical DD5.1, DTS, etc.? I've heard the diff. between CD and DVD Audio and I think it's substantial on my setup. Would this be a good comparison? Thanks much!

Would that be Stereo DVD-Audio or Surround DVD-Audio?
Actually, here's a better idea-- provided you have a DVD-Audio disc or two. Each disk should have a Dolby Digital or DTS track. They should also have a Advanced Resolution/MLP track.
MLP is essentially Dolby TrueHD.
