Yeah, there is some beautiful "scenery" on the island . We always watch on the upstairs SD tv because it is unwatchable on the HDTV downstairs in the theater. I did a test last week, I recorded it down there and facial features were even hard to make out!

The other non-HD show I complain about is The Amazing Race. That's a show the value of which would increase ten-fold with a switch to HD broadcasts.

So much of Survivor is the interplay between contestants and the reactions to events and conversations...that would be yet another reason that HD would be a big plus--besides the rather obvious forms of beauty that are found within the show's content.

I haven't LOL this hard in a long time until Truck was draging Sack of Potatoes around like a ragdoll in a fit of desperation as time was running out, hitting every obstacle in the way during the pursuit.
Me too. I felt bad for that zombie look-alike Chet but boy was that hilarious or what?

This has got to be the most dangerous challenge ever right? I mean, the potential for people getting hurt was way up there. And for Jonathan to get a puncture wound like that through his leg...imagine if that was someone on his/her way down and it was an eye being puncture or something? Geez! It doesn't sound like the producers put much thought on this one.

The preview for next week's episode show Jonathan's leg to be a mess!

My son and I are currently making our way through Heroes: Season 1 and when I saw what happened to Jonathan...it reminded me of the incident involving one of the main characters in Heroes and a sharp stick:

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Hayden Pannatiere's cheerleader character falling on a sharp stick with the back of her head during a sexual assault! Yuck.

I'm kinda surprised they didn't see the potentials for disaster in that trainwreck of a challenge, too. I know they vet these things using real people in mock set-ups...but it must be hard to duplicate just how hard the actual survivors will participate when having a steak picnic dangled in front of them!

I assume you don't have HD reception? Becuase even though it isn't HD, the HD feed looks many, many times better than the SD feed. The colors are much more vivid and when I first started watching the HD feed years ago, I assumed it was in HD.

My wife was so pissed off by Joel and his superiority complex that she cheered when he got blindsided. She really hated him and the way he treated people.

BTW, anyone catch the quick shot of Chet sobbing after losing the reward challenge?

You're not implying there's anything wrong with that, are you?! What? Are men not allowed to cry?

If they're not careful, Chet's gonna end up in the final four...kinda like Scout!

and it was almost for nothing because just as the steaks were cooking and all these people were salivating, the tide came in and put the fire out! I was LOL when that happened.

Re: Survivor: Micronesia (Fans vs. Faves) Premieres 2/7/08

Great episode--one of the most satisfying boots in a long time. Part of me wanted Kronk to stay around because he was such an ass that it was fun to root against him...but since it was between him and Chet, those two needed each other for that great dynamic, so I'm glad it was the shocker/poetic justice boot. He and Chet should totally team up for a country-wide comedy tour though.

Sorry Mike--but after last night, Cirie's back in my good graces. I still hate how she handled the Yau-man boot and the power it gave her, but the old Cirie was back last night. Of course, I know you weren't crazy about her the first time so it's a moot point.

ETA: I really hope we don't lose Jonathan, I don't know if this season can (pardon the pun) survive without him. His commentary on Probst's commentary at the challenges is one of the highlights of the season. At least he didn't leave last night and make my three favorites (Fairplay, Yau-man, Jonathan) leave every other episode at the start.

Chet getting dragged around like the useless rag doll he is was the funniest thing in years.

Re: Survivor: Micronesia (Fans vs. Faves) Premieres 2/7/08

Just watched this last night - Survivor Gold!!!! What an episode and for all the reasons previously stated:
  • That whole frigging challenge was awesome - the injury count made a typical NFL game look like soccer!
  • Kronk dragging poor old Chet Around - hysterical for all the wrong reasons
  • Cerie working her voodoo - I am not a fan but you gotta hand it to her - she is diabolical. I think we might be giving her a little too much credit over Ozzie on this one though - after watching Kronk in that challenge and talking about who needed to go it probably didn't take Svengali/Cerie too much to make an obvious point about the danger of Kronk to Ozzie. He is not an idiot.
  • The surf putting out their fire while cooking those steaks did make me laugh hysterically - I felt bad afterwards but I am still chuckling as I write this.
  • Kronk's "last word" - again, I laughed my ass off. He was in complete shock and denial.
One of the best episodes in Survivor History in my book.

I agree 100%. Not only was that the best episode this season, but it was one of the best Survivor eps of all-time. Tons of LOL moments(most for all the wrong, evil reasons) and an honestly surprising twist at the end. I really didn't think Ozzy and Amanda would be swayed to vote for cro-magnon man over the sack of potatoes/glob of goo, but surprisingly they did. Great stuff.

Re: Survivor: Micronesia (Fans vs. Faves) Premieres 2/7/08

So long Kronk! That's a shame. He was funny. He probably would've killed and ate Chet before this season was done.

KRONK: I don't know where he is. Must've went and got 'emself lost. His loss! Now eat up, it's gettin cold.

That was pathetic when Chet was getting dragged through that course. BOTH participants were useless. Kronk should've picked him up and carried him through the damn thing.

Cerie was terrific and got that deed done! Hell, I would've voted Kronk myself after listening to her reasoning!

I agree about Jonathan. That would suck. I'm a huge fan of The Last Supper, the movie directed by his wife and starring him. Ive watched it every October for about 8 years. Among my favorite comedies ever. Also, he reminds me of one of my co-workers. They could be brothers. Anyway, I was disappointed that was even allowed to happen. Jonathan seems like the type who would sue, well if he's like my co-worker.

And don't forget...close your eyes when he's on-screen...and you're listening to Alan Alda. It still freaks me out!

Re: Survivor: Micronesia (Fans vs. Faves) Premieres 2/7/08

Beware:

CBS is running a spoiler rich preview for this week's (3-13) episode which flat out tells two major events.

Wish I hadn't seen it, because it really deflates the anticipation of finding out what will happen.

Turn off the volume and look away if they are stupid enough to run it again.

Re: Survivor: Micronesia (Fans vs. Faves) Premieres 2/7/08

Sounds pretty cool but $22 for a (what appears to be bare-bones) disc? As a major Penner fan (I always get a kick out of seeing him on Arrested Development and Seinfeld), I'd love to see this but I'll wait for a price reduction.

Re: the preview, it certainly does give a lot away--but in a way that makes me incredibly excited for the next episode. Yep, it reveals two big things--both of which were featured, albeit in less detail in the "Next time on Survivor" bit at the end of the episode--but it's enough of a teaser that I'm more intrigued as to what's gonna happen.

Re: Survivor: Micronesia (Fans vs. Faves) Premieres 2/7/08

I honestly had no idea Penner appeared in two of my all-time favorite sitcoms, Seinfeld and Arrested Development. Guess I need to go back and re-watch the DVDs to see how I missed him.

It was a theatrical release. The DVD is out. They used to show it on Independent Film Channel or Sundance.

Jonathan's pretty good... I like his artist character. The rest of the cast is decent too, especially that black actor who shakes things up at one point. But Ron Pearlman is first rate and very cool. I love his character!

I didn't know that either! Im about to start season 8 but I'll get to 9 soon.

$22 is too much. The thing is barely 88 minutes with ending credits. That's why I still have my old aging VHS. It's a great film and if I thought it was going out of print I'd pick it up right away, $22 or no $22. I adore the soundtrack, from KC's "I'm your Boogyman" to the cover version of Carpenter's "Top of the World".

Thanks for the warning about the extended teaser. I'll avoid that one. I'm really worried about Jonathan. But the show will still be fun if he's gone.

Yep, and the Arrested Development episode he's in is "Not Without My Daughter" from season 1. It was already one of my top 3 AD episodes, but that just adds to its excellence. You'll recognize him immediately.

Johnathon is a busy man, I was watching the news and had the tv on when a soap came on (no clue which one) and who's voice did I hear, yep! I had to watch for a bit just to make sure but there he was. I am not sure if he is a major character but it sure seemed that way.

Re: Survivor: Micronesia (Fans vs. Faves) Premieres 2/7/08

If you guys thought that CBS promo was bad, avoid the Survivor article in next week's TV Guide. Without so much as a spoiler warning, they not only revealed Jonathan's fate in the game, but gave away a major event in the March 19 episode as well as which tribe wins the reward challenge in the same episode. Unbelievable.

Well, there's still plenty of players in the game. I'm worried one of the players staying in the background, like Natalie, is going to win this season. Boooring.

Re: Survivor: Micronesia (Fans vs. Faves) Premieres 2/7/08

A question about tonight's vote.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Why did Terry vote for Erich?

Most everyone wanted to vote for Chet (who volunteered to leave because of his boo boo (the irony of Johnathan being required to leave for his health was plain). Terry and Erich figure it would be the perfect opportunity to blindside Ozzy (not a bad plan).

Chet, however, says no. He wants to leave.

So, everyone votes for Chet, except:

Chet: who votes for Erich (he has to vote for somebody--not himself).

and, Terry: who votes for Erich. But, why?

James, again, displays amazing strength during the immunity challenge. Re the other tribe: all I could think was, "Way to go! You voted off Kronk--(your strongest player). Maybe Chet will be able to help you win this challenge!"

Mike, you must be still lamenting the fact that it's not a full All-Stars--no Terry this time, it's Tracy.

(FWIW--I still would've preferred full All-Stars--most of these fans are incredibly boring)

Re: Survivor: Micronesia (Fans vs. Faves) Premieres 2/7/08

Tracy said she would never vote for Chet so she voted for Eric instead out of loyalty and because she was too chickenshit to cast a vote for any of the Faves.
