question about HDMI + COMPONENT

i read somewhere that it is BAD to mix cables when wiring a home theatre. What i mean is that if you use an HDMI as an OUPUT for your tv, then all other wires should be HDMI as well. Not component. Is this true??

No. I don't know what is meant by "bad", but you should have no trouble using any and all connections at the same time.

Re: question about HDMI + COMPONENT

I did find 1 problem:

I had a HD cable box hooked up with component for many months. I was re-cabling all my box's to use HDMI, but when I hooked up BOTH the component and HDMI, the component feed popped up a strange ERROR and announced it was dropping to 480 resolution. And it did.

With both hooked up:
Component - 480
HDMI - 720

Somehow - hooking HDMI activated copy protection and down-graded the component output.

So I think the rule might come from this. Only one cable type from each device, not all devices must use the same cable.

Right now I have 2 devices using HDMI and 2 devices using component and other than a little complication switching, it works fine.
