Isn't that only as yougo through customs as you're leaving or entering the country? And (presumably) only for security issues or child porn? I don't think customs normally cares about ripped music files.

Customs probably doesn't, but they seem to love confiscating computers with no probable cause.

Laptop confiscations by customs officials are becoming a serious problem. One law firm now gives out laptops with absolutely no data on them, requiring their lawyers to connect remotely to head office to consult their files. This way, client confidentiality is maintained.
