RCA 217 Home Theater

I recently purchased a RCA RTD217 Home Theater. When I connected it to the TV it did not work correctly. When I use the built in radio/tuner all speakers work, but when I use the built in dvd player only two speakers work
using the tv only one speaker of the six works. I called RCA's help line, but they new less about my problen than I did. I have a big screen tv made by RCA (RCA Home Theater tv) it has hi output jack and a mono jack. I have tried both jacks. Do you know anything else I can do to fix this problem.

We'll need a lot more information than just the make and model of your "home theater in a box" (HTiB) before anyone can try to help you.

1. Model number of the TV

2. What is your source for television - cable? satellite? Over-the-air antenna.

3. If satellite - the make and model number of the satellite receiver.

4. If cable - do you have a cable box? If so, what is the make and model of the cable box.

5. Do you have any other devices connected to the TV and/or HTiB? (VCR, TiVo or similar digital video recorder)

6. Are you sure the DVD you played has a multichannel soundtrack? (Not all do.) Did you select the multichannel soundtrack from the menu? (They don't all default to a multichannel track even if they have one.)

I have Dish Network the model of the receiver is dish322. It is a receiver that controls two tv's and is located upstairs. On the back of the receiver is audio out. Would it work better if the receiver was downstairs and the audio outs were connected to the home theater. My tv model number is mp467255k serial # 525480335. The Home Theater model # is HA088H217C0774.

Are you sure about that TV model #? I can't find a match for it on the RCA website. Also I don't know what a "hi output" is. Are you sure that and the mono jack are outputs and not inputs? TVs, especially older ones, generally don't have audio or video outputs. Basically TVs and audio systems are not connected to one another. There's no need. External sources send their video to the TV and their audio to the sound system. (The exception being audio video receivers that can pass video. With them you can connect all the audio and video sources to the receiver and connect its video output to the TV. But your system is not one of these.)

Yes, for TV sound you're probably going to be better off moving the receiver to the same room as your TV and sound system. You'll get the best picture and sound by connecting the Dish receiver video to the TV with an s-video cable. Connect the right and left audio outputs from the Dish to the inputs on the HTiB. You'll get surround sound on shows that have it, and stereo on most others. (Some shows will be in mono, but will probably play through the two front speakers.)

Have you tried another disc in the DVD player?
