How big is an old fullscreen image (only for OAR) in each widescreen television size?

Currently I have or rather had, it went out, a fullscreen 32 inch TV and I know films and shows meant for this frame will not be 32 inches on a 32 inch widescreen. What widescreen TV size would I need to not go down in size for former fullscreen on widescreen TVs and furthermore in any widescreen TV, what is the size of the former fullscreen image?

Perhaps I could have worded this better.

Re: How big is an old fullscreen image (only for OAR) in each widescreen television size?

Given a 16:9 screen, an Academy Ratio (4:3) picture being viewed will have a diagonal about 20% less than the diagonal of the screen itself.

For example on a 50 inch 16:9 screen a 4:3 picture will be about 40 inches in size.

When upgrading your old (analog) TV to a new 16:9 (HDTV) model, get a screen size 25% larger so older broadcasts will show the same size as before. So you would replace your 32 inch set with a new set at least 40 inches in size.

ScreenMath.com :: HDTV Plasma and LCD Screen Size Guide

As Allan indicated, a 40" set or better.
