Audio Connections

Audio outputs on my Satellite receiver,DVD Player, etc have left-right RCA jacks to connect to my Onkyo SRTX700 HTR. Will the receiver interpret and distribute those signals to all channels [front, center, rear] ? Or should I use the Digital coax output and cable ?

I would also like to operate the TV,picture and sound, without turning on the Home theater receiver. How would I connect to the Satellite receiver to do this ?

The only way to get true digital 5.1 from those components is to use a digital coax or optical connection. The most you will get from the analog (RCA L/R) is Dolby Pro-Logic.

You can use the analog from the component to the TV to listen without the HT receiver. The TV only outputs stereo, so the L/R analogs are fine for that purpose.
