I'm ready to run my speaker wires for my sound system, I have read that 18 gauge speaker wire is fine, It seems kinda cheap, Does anyone have a comparison with sound where 18 ga vs monster cables. Any Ideas ? Thanks for your time, Have a happy holiday season.......................Dan

Re: Speaker Wires
First of all, forget about Monster. Good cables, terrible price. Most people recommend 12-14 gauge wiring for speakers. 14 guage is fine if your runs are not more than 30 ft. Although the battles fought over wires are long and storied, I personally feel that wire is wire and therefore went to Home Depot and got a 100 ft. spool of 14 guage zip cord for around $25. One thing is for sure, Monster is overpriced for what you get and you can get the same quality for much less at monocables.com or other such internet retailers.

Re: Speaker Wires
If you are planning on running wires in the walls, be sure to get wire that is in-wall (UL) rated. It isn't a fire hazard, but the insulation in regular wire does not hold up to the environment in walls.Otherwise, I second going to a home center and getting bulk wire. They usually also have bulk "Speaker Wire" which just is more flexible, which is a nice feature.
