Let It Be - The Beatles?

Has there been any further developments for the DVD release of The Beatles Let It Be??

Re: Let It Be - The Beatles?

Nope.

And it's quite pathetic, really. Such an important title from a great legendary band, and I am still holding onto the 1981 VHS release from Magnetic Video (which was the first home video item I ever owned).

Re: Let It Be - The Beatles?

I got a CED off of ebay of this. Skips sometimes...but at least it's the flick.

Re: Let It Be - The Beatles?

Ok. I keep thinking that The Beatles will run out of releases and will put it out. I read at one point they were working on it during the time of when the Let It Be.. Naked cd came out. Anyway, they were unhappy with the content of the film and so it was shelved for now?

maybe it will be The Beatles release for late 2008.

Re: Let It Be - The Beatles?

if not 2008 then 2009 for sure---I've heard so many rumors about this release, one of them being that it will be a 3 disk set including never before seen footage. Like so many others, i've been waiting for this one.

I'm sure when it is released, we won't be dissapointed. I thought the "help" release was pretty good (picture and sound). Let it be can't be far behind.

Re: Let It Be - The Beatles?

If they do a new cut that's more like the Beatles preferred cut (around 3 hours), I'd be interested in a DVD. The 80 min. theatrical cut isn't that great and doesn't really pick up until the rooftop concert. Nearly any interesting footage turned up in The Beatles Anthology.

Magical Mystery Tour and Yellow Submarine could use re-releases first (especially the latter since it'll be the 40th anniversary).

I think we should get a FIRST release of LIB before RE-releases of the others!

Huh? For one thing, LET IT BE is LET IT BE... that's the original film. It should be released as originally intended. I am all for the inclusion of much bonus footage of more jams and studio banter, but this would have to be extras.

The sessions for LET IT BE (originally called "GET BACK") were generally dismal, and the band was breaking up. I recall Lennon himself saying things like "not even the biggest Beatle fan could sit through those sessions", and that the music was "the biggest load of badly recorded sh*t with a lousy feeling to it, ever". That's just LET IT BE. It will always feel rather bleak. I'm beginning to wonder if somehow this is the reason Apple is resisting putting the movie out -- they seem to be wanting to fashion this "LOVE" vibe about The Beatles. And as George Harrison said, LET IT BE "shows our warts". I'm really starting to think Apple wants to whitewash the Beatles' image.

As a diehard fan, I did enjoy seeing much of what was added for the Anthology, and in great quality to boot.

And those of you who guessed Magical Mystery Tour, take a bow.

Re: Let It Be - The Beatles?

Yellow Submarine had an excellent DVD release in 1999. That could be reissued and be enough.

Am I the only person who actually prefers MMT to Help!? The whole deluxe fiasco with this one has caused me to avoid purchasing it altogether, since I'm not too crazy about the movie anyway. MMT I didn't really care for but the song sequences are pretty cool.

I got the standard DVD set of "Help!" and I'm very happy with it. IMO, the deluxe set was just too expensive for what you got (especially when you consider some other of the deluxe sets that have come out recently, like Blade Runner).

Yellow Sub is a good DVD, although it's non-anamorphic, but I'd definitely rather see MMT and Let It Be on DVD before we see YS re-issued.

Yes.

Re: Let It Be - The Beatles?

I'd still rather see a better version of A Hard Day's Night, but that's just me. Add my vote to those who would like an anamorphic Yellow Submarine as well.

Nope, it's not just you. That last most recent AHDN release was a joke.

So do I - you misunderstood what I wrote. He asked if he was the only person who prefers "MMT" to "Help!" and answered yes, meaning he IS the only person who feels that way...

Re: Let It Be - The Beatles?

Since nothing came in 2007, I'm wondering if there is any chance that "Let It Be" will come out this year?

Actually there was the release of the special edition of "Help!" so I guess that filled the quota as far as Apple was concerned.

Re: Let It Be - The Beatles?

I meant since "Let It Be" didn't appear in 2007. I guess I wasn't very clear in my statement. With Paul's new album coming in April, it would be in the latter part of 2008, if it shows up this year.

Re: Let It Be - The Beatles?

What new Paul album...?

Re: Let It Be - The Beatles?

Unless I misunderstood, the radio program "Breakfast with the Beatles", which is played on Sunday mornings in my neck of the woods, it said that Paul will be releasing an album in April. I didn't catch the name of it. I only get to catch a few minutes of the program while I'm driving to attend church, now that I'm retired and no longer work rotating days off, rotating shifts and quick turn arounds and working most of the weekends during the year. I don't miss work at all.

I feel like we've been posting about this for years (we have!), going back even to before this thread started, but here is the latest I have seen, from Beatles Examiner:

http://www.examiner.com/beatles-in-national/beatles-let-it-be-director-says-dvd-of-film-is-the-works

It's an interview with the director, Michael Lindsay-Hogg, and he says 2013 is when he expects the movie on DVD. He also says a re-release of Magical Mystery Tour is coming before that. A second disc to Let It Be will have a making of- feature and outtakes from the film, he says.

Perhaps the next update will be 2021 or so. The length of time of the Let It Be threads on HTF is now longer than the Beatles' recording career.

Just as long as they don't give it a fake widescreen treatment. Fake widescreen makes me barf.

Here is another interview with director Michael Lindsey-Hogg in which he says Let It Be should come out on DVD in 2013:

http://www.examiner.com/rolling-stones-in-national/michael-lindsay-hogg-speaks-at-rolling-stones-rock-and-roll-circus-screening

The interview is about the Rolling Stones Rock'n'Roll Circus, which he also directed, and is an interesting read for fans of the Stones, Beatles and the Who.

Well, it's good belated news.   Glad to hear of it in regards to MMT as well.  While I don't prefer it to Help! I do find it's underrated.   But LiB is a real work; I am always amazed that for all the animosity, the bad got back together and recorded "Abbey Road" AFTER LiB (though it was released first) in order to "end on a good note".   Being one of those people who pretty much gets suckered into anything Beatles, I'd be there..
