Re: "Beowulf"(2007): Unrated Director's Cut 2/26
I am curious what they removed (We can assume.) to get a PG-13.
Personally, as much as I enjoyed the film, I wanted it to me MUCH darker.
In particular, I thought the jokiness of the "we're not showing his penis" camera angle section
was very Benny Hill-esque, and while funny
(The audience I saw it with all laughed.),
I thought it was completely the wrong tone for the film.
It was particularly bad, because it played in a very audience-aware way,
making a "you're watching our movie" moment,
which stripped some tension from the violence we all knew was coming.
I thought they should have either taken out Beo's nudity altogether,
or don't be so bloody AMERCIAN about hiding his genitals. Heck, all they
needed to do was hire Ewan MacGregor to play Beo and it would
have been a non-issue.

But, I suppose a PG-13 meant more box office.
I am also curious if this film will seem as watchable outside of the
IMAX 3-D experience.
