Projector Difficulties

So, I just got an Epson 1080, Ive set it up on an EluneVision screen with a cheap DVD player while I research and wait until I have time to get a decent HTiB.

When any action or fast movement comes on, there are horizontal bars that are kind of "streaming" behind the moving subject. They are very visible and extremely annoying. This has occured on any DVD ive played (Standard Def. widescreen and 4:3).

This was also visible on my old CRT TV, I'm wondering if this is normal, or is there a problem with the DVD player?

I also tested the player from a cheap HTiB which I have lying around, and I think it did the same thing...can't remember...

Re: Projector Difficulties

How thick are the bars? Whjat color are they?

If it's happening with your old TV as well as the projector, it is not the projector's fault.

If the DVD player is quite old, it might have a slow processor decoding the disk and be unable to keep up with large amounts of motion or fast motion. Then artifacts such as checkerboarding or even the bottom half of the screen moving before the top half may appear.

Does the player offer choices besides 480i output and are some choices better? (I would guess that 480p from a cheap player would not be as good as 480i.)

Re: Projector Difficulties

I agree with the other poster, a quality DVD player makes all the difference in the world. An Oppo Digital or Denon would be at the top of my list.

Re: Projector Difficulties

I checked the projector and it says that its getting a 520i feed (or something like that), could it be the size of screen + resolution that is making the bars n fast movements? its a 106 inch screen...

the bars are the same colour as the subject, sort of a lag behind the movements...
