Is there a free Zune video converter?

I have just purchased a Zune and have been fairly happy with it, for $80 couldn't really go wrong for brand new. The battery kind of stinks, but whatever. I am looking for a program to transfer some dvd's to it, and haven't had any luck. If anyone can suggest a free program or help me out, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

I take it that's a Zune 30?

I would Recommend Winff , it's Free and Does do .WMV Files

Anyone posting in this thread should be mindful of HTF Rule 5, the relevant portion of which is quoted below:

Quote:

 5.  Respect for copyrights. Home Theater Forum has a strict policy of respecting the rights of copyright holders. . . . We also do not allow discussion of (a) how to make unauthorized copies of video or audio materials, (b) how to defeat any form of copy protection (including, for example, how to make "personal" copies of commercially produced DVDs), and/or (c) how to obtain equipment that can only be used for such purposes. In one form or another, this rule goes back to the very origins of HTF. We are serious about it, and it is not going to change. Please do not try to debate copyright law with us. We're not interested in discussing what the law should be. We believe it is in the best interest of HTF to enforce this policy strictly, and members test it at their peril.

Microsoft distributes in Windows 7 their mobile-media connector.  It connects Media Center to your Zune, and allows you to transport TV shows and most of what's there.  It's fairly slick.

Also, if you buy most DVDs, many have a "digital copy" with them anymore, and I haven't found one that doesn't work with the Zune.  Also, MS has just updated the XBOX with their "Zune Marketplace" and so expect an XBOX-Zune connector very soon.

Matt -

Very interesting regarding Windows 7 - something I didn't know it could do.

As to the "digital copy" I have never been able to get it to work - guess I don't know the magic words or something. I had done some pretty lengthy research as to why it never worked (for me at least) and found a great number of other people who also could not get the digital copy transferred to or to play on their Zune. Seems to me there was also something about the "Plays for Sure" feature that wasn't compatible with the Zune.

Regards -

Colin
