Ultra N00B question: "strange" movement in HD

Sorry if this has been covered a thousand times or if the answer is blatantly obvious, but I'd really like to the know the real "technical" reason for this. When I see Bluray or HD in the stores, the movement seems to be "too real" almost like its running at 30fps like a reality TV/Discovery show. the characters seem to move more quickly and have little/no motion blur. Does this have more to do with the high resolution of the picture or progressive scan, or is it related to something else? When I've seen these films in theaters, even digitally projected, they don't move in that fashion. Once again I apologize if this has been covered, if so can someone point me to the thread?

That mainly happens if you're watching on of those new-fangled HDTVs that can display 120Hz frame rate conversion. I can't stand watching films on these sets with the 120Hz feature turned on (totally destroys director's intention on frame rate, and looks too smooth), but televised sports can benefit from this feature.
