Bye, Bye COMPUSA

Surprised to see no mention of COMPUSA closing all their stores.

I'm gonna miss 'em. Even more than often better prices, in my experience, I have found that in the area of computer parts, (drives, routers, adapters, various PC cards, etc.), they have usually had a wider selection than Best Buy.

Re: Bye, Bye COMPUSA

I agree that I *should* miss them. I purchased my last two home PCs from them.

But, in reality, I haven't set foot in their local store here in at least two years.

I've been purchasing most of my peripherals and supplies either from the local Wal-Mart Superstore and/or Best Buy. (I can walk in to Wal-Mart and purchase bread, milk, DVDs, *and* a color cartridge for my home ink jet printer.) And the next PC that I purchase will probably be ordered on-line so I can have it configured exactly the way I want it.

CompUSA was great back when PC's had to be opened and configured whenever a new expansion device and/or peripheral was purchased. But these days almost all peripherals can simply be plugged-in to a USB port. And most "consumers-on-the-street" are now purchasing laptops as opposed to PCs. And you don't open up laptops. And do consumers really need training to run a PC anymore? Everybody knows how to run a browser and/or a word processor at this point.

The concept of a an all Computer Superstore B&M shop has unfortunately run its course.

Also, CompUSA has been in trouble for some time. After the initial round of store closings earlier this year, this latest development isn't much of a surprise.

Re: Bye, Bye COMPUSA

I have only been inside of the store near me twice in the 10 or so years they have been in town. I never liked the prices, and the store was always a mess. I usually go to Best Buy, or Office Max for my computer/office needs. Still, hate to see people lose jobs.

Re: Bye, Bye COMPUSA

I stopped going to my CompUSA about 5 years ago. At that time the prices seemed to go dramatically, the help was less knowledgeable, and worst of all - it was almost impossible to return anything.

In fact, they seemed to have suddenly adopted the motto that the customer was always wrong.

No, I won't miss them.
