Cables turning green

Hey, I searched a bit but could find no opinions. I have thick 10 or 12 guage bulk wire from Home Depot with clear housing. I installed it about 6 years ago. I can see the copper is getting green throughout the lengths (5.1 set up). Should I be concerned? Thanks!! Johnny

Re: Cables turning green

Your wire is showing signs of oxidation. Do you live near the ocean? Either way, you might want to get yourself something that is shielded a bit better. Is it turning green at the terminal where the wire is exposed as well?

Re: Cables turning green

The copper may also be reacting with the housing. Either way, replacing it won't hurt.

Re: Cables turning green

I think it is the second one - reaction to the jacket. I had some wire do this to me too and I had people swear both ways that it did and didn't matter. I heard no ill effects in the sound, but I changed it out anyway.

Re: Cables turning green

There's no green at the gold banana plugs. I hate that wire anyway. The housing is so thick and stiff. To install the banana plugs, I had to slice away a lot of the plastic housing in order to get it into the banana plug "cover". Only problem is, I bought an entire 250 foot spool of it. (what the hell was I thinking) It's 12/2 and I just checked the spool. Yup, green.

Re: Cables turning green

I was using the 12 awg from Lowes for my surrounds. About 2 years ago I noticed the green copper. I replaced all of it. I just tied the ends together and pulled the new wire through.
