'Bourne Ultimatum' DVD issues with PS3.

The 'Bourne Ultimatum' DVD seems to have an issue on the PS3 during the layer change. In chapter '14' at 1:48:58 the layer change takes place, an it is here that the picture on the PS3 freezes and one can hear noises from the PS3 laser head as it tries to read the disc. I tried to eject the disc and restart but each time the disc gets stuck on the layer change. I then took out the disc and physically examined it, it is in perfect condition so that is not the problem. Then I tried the DVD on my Pioneer DVD player and the disc played just fine. Thus whatever the issue is, it only manifests itself with the PS3. By the way I have no problems in playing any other DVDs with the PS3 and the PS3 is updated to the latest firmware v2.01

Is this a problem that only I am facing or has anyone else faced similar problems with this or any other DVD title?

Hmmm... HD-DVD must be getting really desperate. Conspiracies are everywhere.

All DVDs I have are all official Region 1, US versions.

Dang, how do you get your hands on it in India and I'd have to rob Best Buy's back storage to get one?

The best part is that the titles are shipped to me from the US. Actually it's quite simple. Studios send out the DVDs much ahead of street date to the various distributors who in turn ship them to the retailers. Titles haved to be shipped to the retailers well in advance to insure that everyone has them in time for the street dates and due to the logistics involved in the bigger companies like Walmart, Best Buy etc. having to distribute copies to their various stores. Once received at the individual stores they need time to do inventory put price stickers on etc., before they can actually put the titles in the racks for sale on the street date. In my case, the concerned distributor/retailer ships out the DVDs/BDs right away after reciveing them, since the street date is not really applicable here in India, more appropriately there is no one here to complain or keep track of the street date. On occasions I have received titles well over a month prior to street date. I have infact in the past actually recieved titles from the US and then shipped them back to the US and they have still been received by the person in the US well ahead of the street date. It seems the bigger titles are always the one's that get shipped well in advance of the street dates. By the way I had received 'Blades of Glory' on DVD a couple of days before the Paramount/Dreamworks press release announcing their HD-DVD exclusivety. Ofcourse in hindsight, I wished I had ordered a few copies of it on Blu-Ray. Would have made a really nice collectors item and gift for some.

Universal is still releasing DVDs. The key of the topic here is the PS3, not the software.

Doesn't that lead to spontaneous combustion?

Haha. Yeah, the copies sit in the back of stores storage areas here too. It's just tough to find somebody that ships out early.

My locally owned CD store sells CD's early!
