The HDMI just stopped working on a JVC RP.

This isn't for me it's for some friends that just got a brand new JVC HD-56FH97 RP and they connected it to their DVR cable box via an HDMI connection. Well, today the HDMI mysteriously stopped working and they no longer get a picture through that connection.

They went out and bought a new Monster HDMI cable and it still didn't work so right now they're using componant cables to get the HD signal until they can figure out what went wrong. They went through the usual check-ups like turning the tv off and then back on, turning the cable box off and then back on and even tried switching the input on the rear of the tv and it still isn't working.

I'm at a loss because it was working fine for a couple of days and now it isn't for no apparent reason that I can think of. Any idea what the problem is or does it sound familiar to anyone? I told them they could get away with using the componant cable but I know that HDMI is optimal for HDTV and I would like to help them get the HDMI hook-up working again.

Re: The HDMI just stopped working on a JVC RP.

Some JVC sets have a weird anti-tamper feature on the HDMI connections involving a light sensor which would cause the HDMI connection to become inactive if a bright light is shined at the connector socket. There is a reset procedure in the service menu, hope this helps:

Re: The HDMI just stopped working on a JVC RP.

If they have a DVD player that utilizes an HDMI interface, have them try that on the same input using the same cable. If it works....then it's something with the cable box whcih could be a handshake issue. (Just guessing here) If you end up suspecting the cable box, I'd unplug the box and disconnect the RF cable to it coming from the wall. Let it forment that way for a couple of minutes then re-hook everything up. First turn on the TV until it gives you a "no input" (or something close) message and then try turning on the cable box. Worth a free shot.....
