What about A Date With Judy and Merrill's Marauders? What about the 2 Frank Sinatra box sets coming in May? And what about a list for other studios just for yuks? I think we've been so spoiled by Warners in the past that we may be getting greedy, for lack of a better term.

How many more times, in how many more threads are we going to castigate Warner for slacking / not giving us the titles/stars we want / messing around with box art? (delete as applicable).

It seems that the mere mention of Warner means that the discussion can only go one way. It's getting old (and it's only April).

You're right, there is no need for a new thread for certain people to discuss the same subject matter again and again which is why Warner is letting us down with their lack of classic dvd releases.

It seems like a pretty good list to me.

That one year started to cut corners
Its releases went down
Causing many to frown
Leaving many classic fans mourners

I honestly had forgot all about the Sinatra films. I don't know. I remember last year when we'd get a press release at least every 2 weeks. Now it's just once a month.

IMO, their general release is this year. Also, what about those other releases I mentioned? If we're going to measure Warner on their releases then at least we should be accurate in doing so.

Bleak ? I am still working my way through Gangsters V3 and Bette V3 and the superb quality of the content and presentation (and packaging too) on these sets makes Warners a studio without peer at least in my book. Fox seems to be doing a good job too but most other studios are doing an absolutely pitiful job in releasing the classic titles that they own - at least compared to Warners.

Does anyone have any idea of a few of the MGM and RKO titles which may be released this year? To be honest, short of researching every title mentioned in the chats, I am not quite sure what is Warners product and what belongs to the other two studios. Perhaps we will see a fifth film noir set?

A habit I have gotten into lately is ordering box sets like Bette Davis and the Bonnie and Clyde set, but also adding past releases that I haven’t picked up. I have found many of the NTSC DVDs are fair better quality than the PAL releases and have avoided picking them up here in Australia.

Meh, it's fun discussing and speculating

FWIW - I have been going back and reading some of George Feltenstein's interviews regarding Warners classic catalog. His enthusiasm and dedication for classic film is incredibly contagious.

The Classic announcements have really been few and far between..and its been awhile since there has been any news on the Warners announcements.
It was so very different from last year where it seemed every week there was an exciting classic announcement.

As reported at the DVD Forums, UK etailer Play.com is listing two September R2 releases that have been previously flagged for R1 release by Warners this year - an 'Errol Flynn Collection' (which Warners said, IIRC, was going to be western oriented), and 'How The West Was Won'. No details of contents, extras, etc.

Probably a good guide that an R1 announcement is on its way.

Thrilled about more musicals!!! All ready to pre-order this

Not a Natalie Wood fan, but will pick up S&SG (if it's available separately) as it's a guilty pleasure with Tony Curtis who is a favorite of mine. This collection is going to make a LOT of people happy

Great to finally get the long rumored legit (and presumably restored) version of This is the Army. I'm not a big fan of musicals but between ARMY and the sheer starpower of the other two this is a must have set.

Thanks, Warner, for this pleasant surprise!

Also, for those interested, "Movie Irv" has posted his latest column at Movies Unlimited. His column hasn't always been the most accurate so keep that in mind when reading. I was a bit surprised that he indicated there's been no news about WHV's next Noir volume. Usually we have rumors/strong indications of content floating around by this time of year since these have come mid summer in the past.

Good news about the Homefront collection - I can't wait for Thank Your Lucky Stars - more Eddie Cantor can only be a good thing!
Also glad to see that Bombers B-52 is finally seeing the light of day - this has been relatively hard to find.

FINALLY!!! I know I have been worrying people about this but now I can "hopefully" rest assured that "This Is The Army" is now coming this year - and only in a couple of months. I can live with that and anxious to see the artwork for this set. Would have thought that there would be more than 3 titles in it though.

Any idea if they plan a War themed set with war pictures, not musicals?
