Re: Ironside SEASON 3

I like Ironside but I'd rather Shout releases those shows that we aren't already getting releases on in Australia.

Yes Id like to see more adam 12, but Ive got zero interesting in rhoda, Clinton shill women oops designing women, etc... most aging comedy shows that hold up poorly. Ironside my 1st choice, adam 12 second.

I'd love to see more Ironside released, but I had to vote for Adam 12. There was never a better cop show...EVER!

Re: Ironside SEASON 3

Well, Mr. Ward has now retracted his earlier comments on the Shout! board and said that they in fact do still have the license to do more "Ironside" and that the Mill Creek arrangement is in fact just a dumping of surplus material. What that alas means, is that the ability to see more releases from S3 on in R1 format is still held hostage by a company that hasn't treated it properly.

Re: Ironside SEASON 3

As much as I'd like to see Shout release S3 I realize its a long shot.

I enjoyed the first two volumes immensely and thought Shout did a good job on them. Unfortunately the sales just weren't there. Mr. Ward has said this repeatedly and I take him for his word on this. I really can't fault Shout for not moving forward on this; they need to make money just like any other company.

Re: Ironside SEASON 3

If they aren't going to do anything with the license then they should sell it off outright to another company and not play this stupid game of sublicensing the surplus material they were incapable of properly marketing themselves, and leaving a phony fig leaf of hope for the fanbase, especially after the misinformation of the previous year when twice we got reassurances that the title wasn't abandoned (long after the sales figures could be taken into account) and then suddenly two months later we were told the situation was too dire to release any more (and yet they will gladly give Peyton Place a second release before they have one scrap of sales data on a first release; go figure).

The fourth season just arrived earlier this week from the land down under. I have watched three episodes so far and the quality is quite good overall - the image appears to be sharper than previous seasons. Glad I have an all region player as I am really enjoying this series. The episode " The Hollow Dreams Of Empty Men" starring Joseph Campanella as a friend of Ironside dealing with a drug addiction withdrawal when both are stranded in a cabin during a snowstorm. Campanella should have won an Emmy. What a difference compared to what is churned out today.

Yes I got mine about month ago but on disk 3 my el cheapo philips region free player took a plotz and wont boot up anything (r1 or anything else) Oh well it was only 30.00 4 years ago. But over all I was happy with what I saw of season 4 . I bought my direct from madman. And every episode Ive see so far has been fun. Now to find a decent place price region free replacement any suggestion guys on a good decently priced dvd players?

Ironside Season 3 From Shout in 2010??

Just saw this on the Shout! website...

http://www.shoutfactorystore.com/prod.aspx?pfid=5257101&sid=3835EC7B17D44D3B9F6BE6F507E9E5CB

Release date is listed as 1/19/2010...have I missed an announcement?  Not too long ago, we thought this show was dead and buried on R1 DVD.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this is for real!

It says "Shout Factory Online Exclusive".

So, perhaps this is Shout flirting with Burn on Demand.
But notice how underneath the description it talks about "Season TWO" guest stars?

I've been jerked around one too many times by Shout! over the last two years regarding this title to instinctively trust them on this.     More proof needs to be forthcoming.

***Edit: Site now shows cover art - matches Seasons 1 & 2 but it's green.

Jack P, I saw that too, but I think it's a typo.  Shatner and DeForrest Kelley didn't guest in Season 2.  I too would like some firm confirmation, but this surprised me to much I wanted to post it.

If that is a typo, that's good to know.

If this is a DVD burn thing, I'd also want to know if are we going to get packaging that can be consistent with S1-2 releases?    These are not idle questions, I'd have to feel that even as a DVD burn thing those of us who need an incentive to go the non-boot route or get rid of our boots if we have them should have the sense that there's a higher quality of presentation being made ultimately to justify the price.

Plus how much do they charge for S&H?  They should have free S&H over $25 like Amazon.  I would have to compare the final price to the region 4 season 3 from Australia to determine which I will order.
The "Online Exclusive" tag may not mean burn on demand, but that for some reason they're not selling it in B&M stores.

or through Aamazon
There are also now listings for the next seasons of My Two Dads, Mr Belvedere & Room 222.  I hope these are not DVD-Rs and only online exclusives.  I guess this means no special features for these titles.

Which was also the color of the R4 release from Madman Entertainment.

I'll not complain if this is the only way the releases will continue.

I bought season 3 (and 4) from Australia a long time ago. But it's a nice surprise for those people still only living in an R1 universe.
Well now all of a sudden the entry says "product not found".
Perhaps they took in down to correct the errors in the listing.  Or it went live earlier than they wanted.

I would hate to think this was just a tease.

It still appears on the "New Releases" page under January.  I'm hoping it went up early by mistake and we'll see it again after an announcement.

Please note, Ironside: Season Three will soon be available as an online direct-to-consumer exclusive. We are not accepting pre-orders at this time, but please stay tuned for details.

Now it says that. However, they are not DVD-r's. They are fully produced DVDs, including packaging. The only reason they're doing that is so that they can run a small number to supply the current demand.

David Lambert will have a more thorough explanation on this soon.
says the same for Mr Belveder season 4, and Room 222 season 2 as well.  Maybe they will only be available through Shout for a few months and then get a wider release later in the year. Anyone know what they charge for shipping and handling?
Well, I have to say this.     Most people know I am probably the most vociferous critic of Shout! on this message board in part because I have always been angry over their handling of both "Ironside" and "The Bill Cosby Show".       But if in fact we are seeing the restarting of "Ironside" AND the long-overdue completion of "The Bill Cosby Show" through a way that can satisfy all parties (limited production to hold costs) I will be the first to give them praise and will even declare my willingness to end my boycott of all other Shout! titles that aren't named Adam-12.      I think they are recognizing a model that has worked for many years with film music soundtrack labels of producing professional quality limited releases that meet the levels of those who are willing to buy them while avoiding being stuck with a surplus of copies, and this is perhaps a model other studios/labels might be willing to follow in the future for lesser titles.

I for one would certainly prefer the model of direct on-line purchase of factory produced sets with good quality packaging than DVD-Rs like Warner Archive.
You can bet the house I'll be pre-ordering this one next week! Consider it an early Xmas Present from me to myself!
Jack, I was hoping that you would be pleased with this move from Shout!

With the Warner Archive, the Universal/TCM partnership, and now this move from Shout! Factory, we may be seeing the future of vintage material on DVD -- product sold directly to the consumer through an exclusive source.

This is one approach that solves the deflationary spiral the DVD market has found itself in by removing the incentive to continually discount product to make it move off shelves.  Not the best situation for consumers, but unless the problem was addressed, I could not see how the studios could continue releasing titles.

Perhaps the daily exposure that Ironside receives on RTN will help make further season releases viable.

And I know I will do my part as soon as SF makes this set available for pre-order.  (And great timing, too.  I had been seriously considering buying seasons 3 & 4 from Australia.)

Good news

Now if they would just fix season 1 of Mister Ed and Fathers Knows Best, I'd really have no complaints with them.

I'm glad you posted this before I came here, because I was going to post something along the lines of "So, will the complaining about abandoning Ironside and the Bill Cosby Show finally end now that Shout has announced their continuations, albeit online".

One of the things preventing me from picking up Ironside in the first place was the apparent abandoning of it. With a possible future for it, I will be looking into seasons 1 and 2 in preparation for season 3.

Now, if only they could fix the first seasons of Rhoda and Mr. Ed, my only major problems with Shout would be gone.

Also, since Shout was created by some of the guys behind Rhino, I wonder if Shout's online DVD offerings are kind of like the Rhino Handmade stuff... meaning, they're limited to so many copies before they go out of print.

I suppose we'll find out more about Shout's new online exclusives as time goes on. And, hopefully, this will lead to other shows getting a shot on DVD like, say, Dragnet '68-'70.
