HD DVD player exclusive @ Wal-Mart? Not a myth anymore...

...,at least in Canada. Wal-Mart Canada's flyer for this week is advertising a Venturer HD DVD player bundled with two movies for $199.97. Granted, this doesn't exactly undercut some of the recent deals from Toshiba, but I thought it should be mentioned. I'll try and post a pic once I've got ImageShack or the like figured out.

NOTE: I just realised I posted this in Software. Mods, if you could move it, I'd appreciate it.

As promised, here's a pic of the Venturer HD DVD player. Scuttlebutt around the web is that it's a rebadged HD A3.

Makes sense.

The Toshiba A3 now appears to be back up to $299, so the $199 Venturer will now fill the void. Interesting that Wal-mart denied that they would carry this player, so either something changed, or they knew they would carry it all along and just weren't ready to announce/promote it at that time.

It's now officially on Wal-Mart's website for $197.88.

A thought just hit me.

It's obvious that Toshiba's strategy is to gain respectable marketshare here in the USA with lower prices and pretty much ignore world markets.

Outside the US, Toshiba prices are still high if available at all. Well...here's where the Venturer steps in with much lower prices than the competing PS3. In other words, Venturer uses the same strategy outside the USA that Toshiba used in the USA.

What do ya'll think?

I should also note that Venturer's website indicates that the player will be available from both Wal-Mart and Target in the US.

Apparently not. Their Website has the Venturer on it. Has for a while if I remember right. A couple of Toshibas too.

I think that was blu hardware only in-store. I am pretty sure it was decided a while back that Target would continue to carry both online.
