Dick Van Dyke in THE MORNING AFTER (1974) - this needs to be released!

I acquired a copy of this, just barely watchable, but boy, was it worth it, even so. Dick Van Dyke is phenomenal as Charlie Lester, a man who loses it all due to the call of the bottle. Lynn Carlin is just as good as his poor wife. And Richard Matheson's script rings absolutely true. This television film classic needs to be rescued from unjust obscurity; I fear this may be difficult, though, due to an extremely popular Beatles song being prominently featured throughout. :-(

Anyone here with some love for THE MORNING AFTER? Could a DVD release be possible? I'd love to see interviews with Van Dyke and Matheson as extras...

I remember seeing this movie when it first aired on ABC as a movie of the week. It is phenomenal. This movie started my love affair with the Beatles that has continued to this day. The song is very poignant to the whole story. I would love to see a release of it.

please let there be a way i can get a copy from you.  my dad has been an alcoholic for more than 40 years.  my mom sent me on a hunt for this movie around 1999--never got my hands on a copy.  she loved this movie.    please let me know.

isnt that the one where he ends up in the gutter drinking out of the brown paper bag? Maybe it's obscure because it's depiction of utter hopelessness is just relentlessly depressing. They really made some interesting tv-movies in those days...

Everyone in the 70s wound up in the gutter, according to made-for-tv movies lol. Linda Blair was a teenage alcoholic, while Jan Brady wound up as a streetwalker. I don't recall The Morning After, but I do vaguely recall a movie where he was in a town where they were all trying to stop smoking. I think Bob Newhart was in it too. Haven't run across this flick in ages, nor do I recall the title. Anyone?

Cold Turkey (1971). Owned by MGM, not on DVD (which is why I still have my laserdisc of it).

As for this film (which I haven't seen), I checked the IMDb and see that Wolper Productions produced it, so it's probably at Warner, meaning the best we can hope for is a Warner Archives release.

How about a friendly neighborhood SPOILER next time?  Don't always assume that everyone has seen every movie.

As for an interview and/or commentary with Matheson, unfortunately he passed away several years ago.

Can't go to the Book of the Month Club, unless you've read the book. I would love to see this on dvd, and Cold Turkey too. These seem like the kinds of flicks that everybody's putting on MODs these days. MODs have opened up all kinds of possibilities for our dvd collections...hope it continues.

Not true; he's still alive, and will be 85 next month.  Apparently the report of his death you read was greatly exaggerated.

Wow, it's been years since I first posted this...I feel so old...and still no THE MORNING AFTER on Warner Archive...
