Onkyo TX-sr705 Auto speaker Setup question

I am trying the auto speaker setup and getting a "retry" message every time it tests the (Right back) surround speaker. No explanation i can find as to what could be the problem in the book. I don't know if it would be an issue but i don't have any left or right surround speakers. If I only have 5 speakers should 2 of them be placed on the L&R sides or the L&R rears? Can someone help?

Thanks,
Tim

Re: Onkyo TX-sr705 Auto speaker Setup question

I'm going off my memory of setting up the 605, but I believe you should have first told it what speakers you actually have, so that when it does the auto calibration it doesn't bother to look for speakers that aren't actually connected. And if you have a standard five speaker setup, the surrounds are the set on the side (at least according to the diagram - whether you actually place them there is up to you).

Re: Onkyo TX-sr705 Auto speaker Setup question

In a 5.1 setup, the surrounds should be the side surrounds (Surround L + R), not the Surround Back L+R. The colors for the side surrounds on the outputs are blue and grey.

Jeff you were right. It was just a matter of putting the two speakers on the (side surruonds). It Auto setup just fine after that.
