Attn: Canadians - Stripper's Union

I'm just wondering if Stripper's Union is a commonly known band/project in Canada, because I've never encountered anyone else in the States who has ever heard of them.

For those who don't know, it's basically a one-shot (so far) project by Craig Northey (formerly of Odds) and Rob Baker (currently of the Tragically Hip). I think I had heard that the single "Give Up and Go Away" was a hit in Canada, but I don't know for sure. That song rocks, and it was "co-written" by Dave Foley! I think Northey says Foley just came up with the title, but still.

Anyway, just curious if they're known, and people should check them out if they haven't heard them or heard of them. You can hear some songs at their myspace site (think it's myspace.com/strippersunion). I've owned the album for a while, but I still don't know it inside and out. I mainly hear it when I'm tooling around San Andreas, and I always think, "Whoa! What's that? Oh, yeah! Stripper's Union!"

"Give Up and Go Away" would be perfect at home hockey games when the opposing team is being blown out. I wonder if they do just that in Canada.

not the popular here as far as I know. I've heard of them, and they got some radio play, but your more likely to hear the hip and the odds themselves.

Re: Attn: Canadians - Stripper's Union

That probably doesn't bode well for a second release, though sales alone don't seem that important to independent releases these days. I know Northey's buddy Jesse Valenzuela released a solo album that I don't think ever saw the inside of a radio station or a retail store (just Amazon and CDBaby), but he's coming out with another one soon.

I imagine Northey-Valenzuela is much better known than Stripper's Union, due to the theme from Corner Gas if nothing else. Of course, that show is very much a niche thing in America, with the only people who know about it being those who seek out shows that don't actually air on mainstream TV. Of Odds, the Tragically Hip, and Craig Northey himself, I think the only one commonly known here is the Hip. The only time I ever encountered Odds was when "Heterosexual Man" was played on Beavis and Butt-Head.

I still need to get Northey's Giddy Up. I know a couple of songs, such as the title track, and I like them a lot.
