Any chance of a unrated version of Cliffhanger?

Cliffhanger is one of those films that I really like, yet can't quite figure out why, im not really a massive action fan, but I really enjoyed this film.

I understand that quite a lot of footage was cut by the MPAA before release, but wondered if there were any murmorings of an uncut release at all?

I did hear a *rumour* that the Pioneer Japanese R2 version of Cliffhanger was totally uncut, but I don't know if there is any truth in that.

Japanese version...

Here is a pdf breakdown of the cut material complete with fuzzy screengrabs of the workprint.

Wow!

Thanks for the link to the PDF. I remember being stunned by the amount of violence in the 'R' cut compared to the terrible BBFC '15' version, but I had no idea that the 'R' version was so heavily trimmed.

It would be great to see an unrated cut on DVD (or even Blu-Ray perhaps...?!?)

Perhaps there just isn't the demand for a new cut.

Its a shame as I think its a rather good action film, they certainly dont make them like this anymore!
