Just picked up the Blu-ray version of Harry Potter Box set and I guess I will not be sitting down to watch it for at least another hour or so! I have to go back to the store and exchange the box set because the Goblet Of Fire disc is an HD-DVD disc and not a Blu-ray like it is supposed to be. Has anyone else run into this little glitch? Not sure how a HD-DVD disc can end up in a Blu-ray box set? Oh well back to Fry's to get another box set so I can hopefully get started on my HP Blu-ray fest after I get back home. I am off to replace it as long as there is another box set to replace it with. The Blu-ray player did not play the GOF disc and it did in the HD-DVD so it is not a misprinted disc. And dam I hated having the volume drop as soon as I switched it to Dolby True HD. I see no reason why freakin Dolby has to be 4db lower than everyone else, what a bunch of wankers!

Add on:

Decided to just add this on to my last post as not to create a new one. Anyway I hope no one else encountered an incorrect disc in there HP box set. Am going to sit down and start watching all 5 today if possilbe and see how good they look and sound.

Too funny. That's one way to end the format war... forget TotalHD but just start mixing BD and HD DVD discs in together until consumers all get dual-format playback to keep up after they get exhausted with exchanging discs...

I saw on another forum that somebody had the same problem. They had ordered it from the Warner Brothers website too (imagine the hassle of that!).

I've seen people with the same complaints on AVS and other forums. I wonder how that could happen in the first place. The HD-DVD set is supposed to have combo discs and the Goblet of Fire with the error is not a combo.

ETA: Apparently only Order of the Phoenix is a combo disc, the other movies are not.

The funny thing was seeing a standard HD-DVD disc mixed in with the Blu-ray discs. I was also suprised to see that there is two different size paper cases inside the box set, instead of regular blue jewl cases. The good thing is that I was able to get the HD-DVD disc echanged for the correct Blu-ray disc. Nice that all they had to do was open another box set and give me the blu-ray disc after the checked it of course.

I am just glad I did not buy this online as it would have taken awhile to get it straightend out. So far I am in the middle of watching the second movie and everything is going well.

I discovered an interesting twist on this problem. I opted for the individual Blu-ray Disc releases, and my Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is clearly the BD from the box set, as the other individual releases all have photos for the disc art.

I wonder how wide spread this new problem is?

OOTP is NOT a combo in the set, which is a plus to me. The HD DVD set I have is perfect.

This is a great set (and it sounds like that applies no matter what color you choose), but i do think it is clear that WB does favor HD DVD. I mean they are even including them in the Blu-ray set.

I can't wait to delve into it and I'm glad that it looks like there is enough room in the box for the future movies. Even though I seem to be one of the few who actually like combos, I am glad that Phoenix matches the other discs in the set. I just can't figure out how to get those bookmarks into my player to mark my favorite scenes...

So, is it OK to open all of the individual BR releases? I've gotten so gun shy about opening movies until I read some reviews so as not to have another "Curse of the Black Pearl" framing debacle (granted, different studio, but things happen)...

I opened Goblet of Fire and Phoenix and can confirm the same thing on mine. The GoF disc is beige with a circular design around the perimeter of the disc.

Exactly the same with my HP GOF BD. I like disc art as well Paul. This is minor, but, still. I picked mine up at Wal-Mart. Wonder if that means anything in regards to this issue.

I was going to watch all 5 yesterday but called quites after 3 movies. I guess I wanted to have something new to watch today after I got home from work. I have seen Goblet Of Fire but I have not seen The Order Of The Phoenix yet. So far the Blu-ray version looks very good and there have been no other problems so far, other than the rouge HD-DVD disc that ended up in my box set.

Thanks for the replies, guys. Hmmm. It sound like this issue is pretty pervasive. I requested a replacement copy from Amazon hoping to get a disc with photo art this time around, as I am notoriously anal about such things. OCD sucks, let me tell you. However, I am thinking it was probably all for naught now.

My copy of Order of the Phoenix has still not shipped yet from DVD Planet. They seem to be way behind on their Blu-ray Disc order fulfillment, but right on time with their HD DVDs incidently. Anyway, I will report back which disc art I receive when I do, but I expecting it to be from the boxset now.

Anyway, at least it was the correct HDM format.

Perhaps that's the explanation of Dave's problem.
Some moron in the shop must have sold the individual disc by taking it out from the set. And then replaced it with the HD DVD version later (angry suspicion: perhaps not even knowing the difference).

Selling the HD DVD version as a BD probably being refused by the customer already.

Nope. According to this poll over at AVS, at least 10 people have had a nasty HD-DVD surprise in their Potter blu-ray box. This is a widespread Warner cock-up, just like the Superman DVD box.

I expect we'll hear some "official" announcements soon.

I figure that mine was not a return as I purchased it minutes after the store opened on release day, I was most likely the first customer of the day. My Blu-ray box set was completly sealed and after opening it up and removing all the discs. I decided to check out everything to make sure there was no damaged discs. Imagine my suprise once I opened up the Goblet Of Fire box to see a disc with the HD-DVD logo on it. The back of the packaging for that particular disc even had a HD-DVD logo on it. The rest of the HP movies had Blu-ray logo's on them. The customer service rep at Fry's told me that was not the first time that has happened with other releases, like the HD version of Earth. I got the single HD-DVD disc exchanged for the Blu-ray disc so it was not big deal. But I was under the impression that each HD format was done at different replication plants. And if so even if the same company boxed up the discs wouldn't the HD-DVD box sets be on a seperate assymbly line? It is just weird how an HD-DVD can end up in a Blu-ray set and vice versa.
