Re: nirvana unplugged dvd finally

One of my favorite albums...but how much can 5.1 enhance a stripped down acoustic show like that?

Re: nirvana unplugged dvd finally

The best part about it will be the rehearsals bonus footage. They tried songs in different keys than what was played on the show, as well as some instrument switching. Very little is known about the rehearsal other than that, so perhaps these bonus features will enhance an awesome package even further.

Jeez Louise, FINALLY! (I wonder if Courtney needs money again)

Can this release be any more under the radar?

a guy i work with said the same thing about her, but didn't she sell off the majority of her stake in nirvana? so maybe its new holders who finally pushed this out.

I think I'm the only person I know of that doesn't care for this title. I don't know, it just seems so overly sad and somber to me; the songs, the mood, everything. I think I even felt that way before KC passed, but now I like it even less.

Most of the song of NIRVANA's are really meaningful which some of their music comes their story or it happen to them...

Re: nirvana unplugged dvd finally

This has definitely flown under the radar. The only reason that I knew is because a pattern has been set where there is a new Nirvana release every year for the holidays. I checked a fansite about a month ago and found the press release.

I for one cannot wait for this release as it is a modern masterpiece in my opinion.

As far as I can tell, this leaves only one Nirvana release to come. A complete video collection on DVD...and I'd be willing to bet that it comes out next November. Then they car start recycling the releases on HD the following year.

Re: nirvana unplugged dvd finally

this is one of my faves, actually the album that turned me into a fan The stripped down approach really let their sense of melody and song craft come through, something that was alost a bit in the noisier stuff.

the 5.1 DTS could be amazing. It tends to open up the sound field, so the resonance of the accoustic instruments can come through more.

I, for one, would love to have ALL the Nirvana videos. However, how many could there be? I don't think any were made for their first album. Nevermind had four ("Smells Like Teen Spirit," "In Bloom," "Lithium," and "Come As You Are").

Their third album, In Utero, had...let's see..."Heart-Shaped Box." I think that's it.

As much as I want those videos on DVD's, I guess its going to be a pretty short running time.

---back on track---

I loved the "Unplugged In New York" concert, and can't wait to get this DVD. Kurt is a pure prodigy - high on heroin during the performance, you'd never know it. He sings well, he plays fantastically, he's neither scared or intimidated by being filmed...alas, I miss his genius. I'm grateful for what he has given us, and that it was captured on film and record.

Re: nirvana unplugged dvd finally

that sounds right to me, I think there was a couple versions of some of them. Come as you are maybe?

I would hope there would be some kind of live concert they could release, as opposed to the clips on the other DVD out there. The videos would then be a great bonus.

Re: nirvana unplugged dvd finally

They were talking about releasing the complete 1992 Reading Festival Show, but it got scrapped when the complete tape leaked on the net. If it wasn't for the crappy Time Code box at the bottom, the copy that is out there would be perfect.

Music Videos?

In Bloom (Sub Pop Version)
Smells Like Teen Spirit (final Edit)
Smells Like Teen Spirit (Sam Bayer Edit)
In Bloom (all Dresses version)
In Bloom (Suits and Dresses Edit)
Come as You Are
Aneurysm (live video for Wishkah)
Lithium
Sliver
You Know You're Right
Heart-Shaped Box (Anton Corbijn edit)
Heart-Shaped Box (re-edit)

Not to mention there were a few things that MTV showed as videos:

From Unplugged:
The Man Who Sold The World
All Apologies
About a Girl

From the Live Performance on 120 Minutes:

Territorial Pissings
Smells Like Teen Spirit
Polly
Drain You
