i have the dayton sub 120 12 and i was thinking about buying a titanic 12 and switching the woofers im sure the amp is alot lower like a 150.. do you think it would be a substantiale difference?

Re: what do you think about this

Before you spend the money, I'd pull the driver on the 120 and measure the inside of the enclosure, including any bracing inside. Then measure the port diameter/length. With those two you can approximate the tuning frequency of the enclosure. Likely, it's tuned in the 30s. I get a gross internal of 2 ft^3, assuming .75" thick material and not subtracting for any bracing, ports, drivers. The Titanic12 really needs a 20Hz tune and net volume > 2.5^3, IMO. It doesn't actually model too bad in 2 ft^3 net tuned to 20hz, but getting an adequate diameter 20hz port in 2 ft^3 is challenging to say the least...especially when your box size is already fixed.

it doesnt have to be a titanic maybe the HF on daytons site for 129 i hear its more accurate anyone have a HF http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showd...number=295-464

Re: what do you think about this

The driver doesn't determine the tuning. It's a function of box volume and tube diamter/length.

In turn, the driver's parameters determine its frequency response in a given box volume. The tuning needs to be such that it complements that response curve's low end rolloff.

The DVC12, Titanic12, and RS315-HF all really should be in 2.5 ft^3 net or larger with 20ish Hz tunes, IMO. The 315-HO is a optimized for smaller boxes and has a decent curve in 2ish ft^3, but it still needs a sub 25hz tune, IMO.

Without knowing the actual net volume and tuning of the 120's enclosure, you're just randomly swapping drivers. At that point, despite the drivers mentioned being vastly technically superior to the 120's driver, you're more likely to be disappointed as the 120's current driver was [hopefully] picked for its suitabilty with that cabinet volume and tuning.

This is ignoring the prospect that the amp may also have some customized EQ. If such EQ exists, using a driver that looks good in that box/tuning without accounting for the EQ could still lead to less than satisfactory results.

Re: what do you think about this

well i ordered it and the tech guys said "IT is a fantastic sub for home theater and will work in the same enclosure. The tuning should be a little deeper though so you would want to make the port longer." what? and How do i do this?
