Frustrating connectivity issue

I've got a wireless router that has one computer physically connected via an ethernet cable, and two outlying computers with wireless receivers. I was using my computer like normal earlier and went to do something, and when I came back, the internet connection was down. Turns out the wireless connections are still fully functional. It's just the wired computer that is having a problem.

Here's what I've tried, to no avail:

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
ipconfig /flushdns

netsh winsock reset catalog

I've also unplugged the ethernet cable and moved it to another port. No dice. I unplugged the router and modem and shut off the computer for a while, but that didn't help either. Even tried a system restore or two.

I can, by the way, access files on the remote computers on the affected computer.

All of that is about all I know how to do with my limited knowledge. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm at my wit's end here.

One last little oddball thing: I "lost" my bookmarks and other settings in Firefox. They are still there, but they aren't active. This may not be directly related, because I'm afraid in my frustration I pulled the plug on the computer without shutting down. Yeah, smart. That is probably all it is, but I don't know.

Re: Frustrating connectivity issue

Hi, just wanted to say that a guy at another forum got my problem solved for me. Turns out I had bad DNS numbers. I don't know if my ISP just recently changed or what.

You would think the the ipconfig/renew would have listed your DNS numbers for you. I was going to say it sounded like a bad NIC card on your wired computer.

Re: Frustrating connectivity issue

It turns out it was something that affected a lot of my ISP's customers. I don't really understand it all, but I was set up a number of years ago with specific DNS numbers, and they now set people up with dynamic DNS numbers. "Obtain DNS automatically" is the setting. They made some change yesterday that cut those of us using the old method off, so the guy said he's gotten tons of calls today. I was fixed by putting the temporary DNS numbers in, but things were slow. Going to dynamic, things seem to be back to normal.
