Where's The Digital Bits?

It appears that hackers may have attacked the Digital Bits website.

Though those with access to the webmasters e-mail can confirm this...

Re: Digital Bits Hacked

I just figured it was yet another server problem. It seems to happen at least every other month or so.

Re: Digital Bits Hacked

Ah! That explains why my computer could not find the site.
Thanks.

Re: Digital Bits Hacked

When I am unable to access a site, my primary assumption is that the server is simply down... because that's what servers do every so often.

Why do you think there is foul play?

Where's The Digital Bits?

This may not be the correct forum to ask this in, but is anyone else having trouble accessing The Digital Bits? I haven't been able to connect with it for the past two days and I'm really missing it.

Re: Where's The Digital Bits?

It's rumor that they were hacked.

You can also refer to them as people that desperately need a life if they get so aggravated by someone else's opinion that they 'attack' them.

Re: Where's The Digital Bits?

They were hacked. This was what it looked like earlier this weekend.

Re: Where's The Digital Bits?

Regardless of what any of us think of the Digital Bits site, they do not deserve, nor does Bill Hunt, an attack by hackers. I can't stand those little pricks that sit at thier keyboard and have nothing better to do than cause trouble.

Re: Where's The Digital Bits?

No, whatever the case they do not deserve this kind of coward... payback? revenge? For what?

And I happen to have Bill Hunt in high regard. No matter whether I agree with his views or not –and more often than not I do– his opinions are always lucid and sensible, backed with solid, well-thought arguments.

I consider myself fortunate to have THE DIGITAL BITS as another source of information, opinion and analysis.

"Revenge against that websites"?

Re: Where's The Digital Bits?

Bits is back up and running as if nothing happened, but there are a group of folks who've apparently been left hanging.

The loved-yet-sparsley-frequented 'The Digital Forum' (as seen in the links on the left of TDB's main page) hasn't returned as of yet. Judging by how the Bits have ignored their own forum in the past, I'm going to assume it's not coming back.

In that case: Hello, my name is Stubblecat and I'm an alcoholic. But in the good way.

Re: Where's The Digital Bits?

And while I'm asking, how exactly do you remove your real name from your profile info? I can't seem to find that option anywhere in my CP.

Re: Where's The Digital Bits?

The site was down for upgrades it appears.

Nothing serious...

Re: Where's The Digital Bits?

If the website was hacked, then I give Bill kudos for not mentioning it and playing on as if nothing happened.

No reason at all to give the hackers recognition, that's exactly what they're looking for. And it would have been easy to spin it into another anti HD DVD rant saying something like 'see here's what the HD DVD supporters are like'.

Re: Where's The Digital Bits?

people still read the digital bits? i moved on when Bill Hunt became a Blu Ray whore. and don't get me wrong, I love blu ray, but his one sided view of both formats was a little too much to stomach.

can't say i feel sorry for the guy.

Re: Where's The Digital Bits?

I visited the site on the weekend and got a splash page (placed by a hacker I assume) saying that the site had been hacked. Went back later in the day and I could not connect at all.

Re: Where's The Digital Bits?

BD+ cracked and Digital Bits hacked... both in the same week.

Coincidence?

I still read the digital bits.....I guess that makes me a "Blu-Ray whore" too.

Re: Where's The Digital Bits?

Bill Hunt's not a Blu-Ray whore, as he has said in virtually every post on the issue, the format war is a greedy and foolish move on the part of corporations that does nothing but divide and take advantage of consumers and that nothing good will come of it--but given that it IS around, and that people ARE buying both, Blu-Ray is technically speaking the stronger format to hedge your bets on, which is basically what Hunt is saying. The label "Blu Ray Whore" to me smacks of someone who owns an HD-DVD player...

I deleted my bookmark DB after they 'came out' and haven't been back since.

Re: Where's The Digital Bits?

I really can't believe some of the things I am reading on this thread...

Bill Hunt's position regarding the hi-def war it's just sensible, not slanted, biased or single-sided at all... But, EVEN if it were, even if he were a Blu-RAY whore instead of a reasonable, well informed man with an educated opinion, what? You can't say you feel sorry for the guy? He had it coming? He got what he deserved? It was ok to hurt him or to hurt what's important to him?

That implication has to be one of the most disgusting things I have read on this boards in many years.

Hey, next time let's rape his wife and burn down their house. Because he's a moron, you know, and we don't agree with him. It's only fair.

Re: Where's The Digital Bits?

Folks,

Can we just STOP here?

I'm thoroughly disgusted by the comments here concerning
Bill Hunt.

Whether you agree or not with his position in this format war,
let's not forget that it is an opinion that he is entitled to speak
about on his own website. If you don't agree with him, don't
read his site. I'm certain his readership isn't hurting.

These personal attacks on Bill are unwarranted and downright
deplorable.

As an owner of a neutral forum, I don't agree with Bill Hunt's stand
in this format war. He is fully aware of that as we have debated our issues
on several occasions. That doesn't prevent me from calling him
a friend.

If you wish to express your dismay with his opinions, that's fine.
When you cross the line and make personal attacks that's a problem.

Re: Where's The Digital Bits?

I had trouble accessing the Bits for a day or so, but I am glad it is back where it belongs now. It's still one of the very best resources for DVD information and Bill's comments (responsibly reported as his informed opinions) are always interesting. I wouldn't go a day without checking it.

The Bits and TSoD are 2 sites I check daily.
