Re: Last Starfighter fans...

If it doesn't also come with a promise of Centauri coming down to recruit me when I defeat the Command Ship I'll be extremely disappointed.

Looks, sounds & works great on my HP laptop!!!

It starts out ...

"Greetings, Starfighter. You have been recruited by the Star League to defend the frontier against Xur and the Ko-Dan armada."

It's a FREE Download and it sounds & plays like the real game in the HD DVD movie!!!

Sam and Phil, thanks for the Posts. Pretty cool indeed. Just down loaded the game and am curious to see how it plays. Guess I will have to put down Halo3 for a bit.

Re: Last Starfighter fans...

Alright, this movie came out before i was born.

So when I decided to watch this movie, I took into account that through time there have been many other new things to come around SINCE this movie came that I compare this too. So the movie was sort of at a disadvantage.

So when my little brother and I watched this movie a couple weeks ago, I couldn't stand it, it creeped me out, and I turned it off.

I did not like it.

creeped you out?

Be more specific please.

Re: Last Starfighter fans...

Balding women.

BALDING WOMEN.

and just plain creepy aliens, which sort of lacked any real originality or coolness in my opinion.

Re: Last Starfighter fans...

I did not care for this movie either. There just didn't seem to be enough of a story to wrap around an interesting premise. Fortunately, it was only a rental. Perhaps I would feel differently if I had watched this movie when it originally came out, as nostaglia plays a large part in these "cult classics".

Re: Last Starfighter fans...

In the '80s, a "Last Starfighter" game was programmed for the Atari 8-bit computers but, as far as I know, never released. It did make the rounds of the underground, however.

Partially correct - the "Last Starfighter" was eventually released for the Atari XE Game Machine as "Star Raiders II" on cartridge.

Both versions (LSF and SR2) are really good games, albeit SR2 is about 5 years late.

I love this movie, but as you point out I am sure that nostalgia plays a big part since it was one of my favorite movies as a kid.

Re: Last Starfighter fans...

I remember going to the drive-in theater to watch this in 1984. I was 11 years old, which was just the right age to be indelibly impressed by the insanely cool video game and special effects (which were actually good for their time), even if the plot and acting wasn't A-grade.

I remember that we all wanted to play that game. That's what the movie was all about for us. Now, to discover that someone has re-created the game... that's just incredible. And to play the game and discover that it doesn't actually entirely suck... that's the icing on the cake. This isn't mere nostalgia. This is more like a trip back in time! Thanks for the link, Sam!

Re: Last Starfighter fans...

Me and my family went to see Ghostbusters, but this was playing instead. We were driving away and decided to turn around and go see Last Starfighter. We were not disappointed. Not a classic film, but I loved the cgi effects and the cast was likeable enough.

I'll be downloading that game. Looks like fun! A full size cabinet version would be one hell of a conversation piece.

Paul, I loved this film, but you nailed it on the head. Nostaglia plays a big part of it.

Re: Last Starfighter fans...

Ahh I remember that summertime crush. That reminds me I need to get Night of the Comet. I can't believe that we didn't see much of her after those two roles. She and Lance Guest just kind of disappeared.

Re: Last Starfighter fans...

I took my time getting Night of the Comet on DVD as well. I finally caved last month. Disappointing they didn't include the preview trailer. At least the film looks better than my old VHS. I'm itching to get Last Starfighter to replace a VHS.

She still looks great btw. Check out her recent shots on imdb.com.
