Universal Studios Home Entertainment has announced that Eastern Promises will be available to own in high-definition exclusively on HD DVD/DVD Combo disc, come December 26, at $39.98 SRP each.

It didn't fare to well a the box office, so I'm not surprsied by the quick turnaround. Not a great film, but certainly worth seeing imho. The one I'm really waiting for on HD-DVD is Lust, Caution. However, I'm guessing it'll likely be an Oscar contender in the Best Foreign Film category, so Universal will probably delay its release until sometime in the spring.

One of my favorite movies of the year, with 24 bit TrueHD to boot. Will be snagging this promptly.

Really good movie; I'll be happy to add this to my collection. It would be really cool if New Line were to decide to release an HD version of A History of Violence at the same time.

I might do a blind-buy for this one. Cronenberg is hit or miss with me but I enjoy a good mob movie.

Not familiar with this one. I just got Uni's Talk to me in as well, never heard of that either, tho it looked somewhat interesting if box art is any guide.

Excellent. This film finally opened in theatres here, but seeing as I'm a huge Cronenberg fan, I'll probably skip the visit to a theatre and pre-order the combo HD DVD.

This will be also released in Blu-ray (UK):

DVD Times - Eastern Promises (UK BD) in February

"Pathé Distribution Ltd. have announced the UK Region B Blu-ray Disc release of Eastern Promises on 25th February 2008.

Extras are the same as the DVD release and include:
Secrets and Stories Featurette (10 mins)
Marked for Life Featurette (7 mins)"

Seems to be "region B", though (based on the press release at this point).

For you red/purple folks, since this one is unlikely to get re-encoded, and already has a lossless track, I highly recommend picking this up. PQ is excellent, not to mention the movie is awesome.
