Saw over at AVS that Wal-Mart's "secret sale" (items/prices can already been viewed but not yet purchased on their website) will include numerous HD DVD titles for $14.96:

Clerks 2
Lucky Number Slevin
Pulse
Failure to Launch
4 Brothers
Italian Job
Sleepy Hollow
Casino
12 Monkeys
Backdraft
Big Lebowski
Seabiscuit
Alexander Revisted
Blood Diamond
Full Metal Jacket
The Last Samurai
Swordfish
Unforgiven

Not to be outdone (or more likely to mitigate price-matching ouchies for them), Best Buy has now reduced prices on numerous HD DVD titles to $17.99:

Alexander Revisited
The Big Lebowski
Blood Diamond
Casino
12 Monkeys
Seabiscuit
Backdraft
Doom
Full Metal Jacket
Swordfish
Unforgiven
The Last Samurai

In addition, Best Buy has a couple more for $19.99:

Evan Almighty
Knocked Up

If you buy them online, you may be able to order for store pickup to save on shipping. Hope this helps.

Edit: Just found out that Circuit City is selling 6 HD DVD titles for $13.99 each:

12 Monkeys
Backdraft
Blood Diamond
Casino
Last Samurai
Unforgiven

Link: http://entertainment.circuitcity.com...aspx?Store=903

You may be able to buy these at your local CC and get the online price. Free shipping if you order 2 or more, though (free shipping orders $24+).

Edit2: Just saw over at AVS that Amazon has lowered the price of a group of Universal titles to $16.49:

12 Monkeys
Backdraft
Casino
Doom
Seabiscuit

Eligible for free shipping orders $25+; if you qualified for the 10%-off promo last year, it's still effective, making these $14.84 each.

Re: HD DVD sales at Wal-Mart (Friday) and Best Buy (now)

At Walmart this morning, the only HD-DVDs on sale for $14.96 were Blood Diamond, 12 Monkeys (which they didn't have in stock) and The Big Lebowski.

I checked the prices of some others, but not any of the ones on the above list, so I could be mistaken. If anyone manages to verify this, please post.

At my store this morning, for $14.96, they had Swordfish, Full Metal Jacket (the remastered one), Blood Diamond, Unforgiven, Alexander Revisited: The Final Cut, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and The Last Samauri.

I got Full Metal Jacket and Alexander.

My store had this exact assortment this morning. One of the employees unboxed them while we all stared, trying patiently to wait for 8:00 so we could check out with our A2's. They had 5 or 6 copies of each title.

Re: HD DVD sales at Wal-Mart (Friday) and Best Buy (now)

I bought 4 HD-A2s to give as Christmas presents, and these:

Alexander Revisited
Backdraft
Clerks 2
Full Metal Jacket (deluxe edition)
Swordfish

Also ordered the HD-A3 at BestBuy.com for $199.99 with 2 free movies (Fearless, Children of Men) to go with the 2 titles that Toshiba puts in the A3 box (300, Bourne Supremacy) and the 5 by mail. I'm still hunting for the Reward Zone coupons, effective today, that haven't shown up in my mailbox, may do a return/rebuy when I pick it up to save another 10/12%. I sure hope Frezon hasn't been staking out my mail man.

Oh my.

Interesting -- at the store I went to, the employees only knew about the 3 discs listed on the ad poster. The overall HD-DVD selection was horrible, anyway. They only had about a dozen titles in stock (not even 12 Monkeys).

Maybe the sale titles were still in a box in the back room and they hadn't noticed it yet.

I did see a couple of posts over at AVS (among the gobs discussing this sale in threads all over the forum) indicating some WMs, for some reason, had not put up the involved HD DVD aisle displays yet but were planning to do so for tomorrow (per WM employees) with the stuff still boxed up in storerooms.

Re: HD DVD sales at Wal-Mart (Friday) and Best Buy (now)

Thanks for the info. I'll stop by over the weekend if I have time.

Of course, UPS says they delivered Guitar Hero III this afternoon, so time may be at a severe premium for the next couple of days.

I wanted to buy 2 players (1 for me and one for a present) but my Wal-Mart said there was a 1 item limit per person. We pointed it out to them that the email ad did not say anything about that and they didn't care. They were only letting people buy one HD-DVD player at a time. And with a line of 70 people and only 19 players in to begin with...there was no way to get back in line and get a second player.

So I guess that Free HD-DVD Player + free every hd-dvd available + $100 gift Card on Black Friday joke isn't that far off the mark...

Circuit City has joined the party, added info to the first post.

Re: HD DVD sales at Wal-Mart (Friday) and Best Buy (now)

Gee - no HD-A2's on sale at my local Walmart. No HD-A2's at all, nor any other HD player other than the XBox 360 add-on and the PS3. No HD-DVD's on sale either. Not surprising since I've only seen one HD-DVD title there. I guess Walmart doesn't believe their small town customers might be interested in HD stuff.

Re: HD DVD sales at Wal-Mart (Friday) and Best Buy (now)

My wal-mart in Simpsonville, SC had about 35-40 HD-DVD players friday morning, and sold out in about 1/2 hr. A guy in front of me has five, and they told him one per customer. Funny thing is, I saw no one buying movies. That surprised me.

Re: HD DVD sales at Wal-Mart (Friday) and Best Buy (now)

I have read that Wal-Mart will have more supply throughout the holiday season, so you will have more opportunities to pick up the A2 for $100 or less.

Added to the first post info on Amazon price changes.

Re: HD DVD sales at Wal-Mart (Friday) and Best Buy (now)

I was in the big Super Walmart on Saturday and there was no signage at all about any sale on discs. In fact, they'd moved the BD and HD-DVD discs to a more out-of-the-way endcap!
