Warner to pick one format? - Page 4

Re: Warner to pick one format?

Back to Warner...

Since Silberberg said that WB would be "watching the 4th quarter" I doubt that they'd give clear indications in a soon-to-be press conference about their final intentions (or format choice) since that would negate the need to watch the 4th quarter to monitor sales/consumer activity. But perhaps he'll repeat what we've heard from the bits and elsewhere... that WB is considering changing their dual-format position? The minute any such press release appears... someone be sure to post back here with a link!

But the thread topic was Warner. If it's impossible to add anything to that discussion, we shouldn't continue this thread. Please stop the pathetic nonsense.

Cees, at the risk of being rude, this thread shouldn't even exist on its own. According to the HTF policy on format war talk, it, by its very subject nature, belongs in the "Official HTF HD Formats Industry/Retailer/Studio Support Thread".

I wouldn't expect a press release before January. I'm a PS3 owner though format neutral. I'm very much thinking about getting a HD DVD player (~400 € in this country), but maybe I should wait and see what Warner does... There are at least 40 titles I'd like to get on HD DVD.

I didn't hear anything more about that Press Conference. Was there any real news about Warner's format neutrality?

Cees

No news.

Pity, the suspense amounts!

The topic said it all: "Warner to pick one format?"

Blu-ray or HD DVD, one OR the other, this was not intended to be a war thread just a heads-up to a decision that would have undoubtedly picked the path for the very purpose of the "HT Software - High Definition" section of this forum and everywhere else.

IMHO, it would have been true to that if Warner had speedily made an announcement of preference.

What we do know, is that Warner is studying the market and their intention is now made clear that they want ONLY one format.

This war talk is damaging and needs to be put in the proper place.

Of all the possibilities mentioned regarding the low "Clearance" price of the HD DVD players, is it possible that no one can see the forest because of all the trees? Think of the possibility that with such a liquidation price on all these units, Toshiba may be trying and Warner giving them time to salvage a miniscule part of their investment? Warner's warning could be one of impending doom for them and the need would be definitely there to use the time to man the lifeboats, before the format becomes a dinosaur.

Or maybe not.

Only Warner could set this straight.

You're not being rude at all. It's true.

We figured this conversation could be extremely important to all of us, and the Staff allowed it to stay. Unfortunately, people cannot resist to add all sorts of "war-talk" - and even about what was basically a totally different subject.

Even after my warning it persisted and I have removed several posts.

There was to be a press conference, I think it was to be yesterday. Some people believed it to be about this important subject. Apparently it didn't happen (or was about something else). I'm starting to believe that this whole "news" is basically just another spin, of the type we encounter so often in this peculiar "war".

Reason to close this discussion now. Let's wait and see if anything substantial will come up in the future.
