Absolutely. This season is definitely better than last, but it seems the same thing has happened where they just ran out of story to tell (I think it happened much earlier last season though, like hour 10). I'm actually starting to wonder if this show would work better now as '12' instead of '24'.

Try hour five. I remember thinking, "Jack shot Curtis and a nuke was detonated in SoCal. I can't wait to see how they top this." It turned out I could wait ... a very long time. All of the Bauer family drama proved to be a bust.

I think it was his granddaughter, named Teri after his wife.

I love that Pierce is trying to expose the truth. Jack beating Tony was well deserved. And I liked Jabraan improvising and saying that he had a bomb to get the bioweapon out of the train station.

While I wasn't surprised that the husband and wife were bad guys, I was pleasantly surprised that the other guy turned out to be an FBI agent working for Jack.

EDIT: Corrected a name in the list.

I don't think the show earned that moment one bit. Tony is the biggest paint by numbers, shock value villain this show has had in all seven seasons.

I think, on its own, the scene works (leaving out how each viewer feels about Tony turning bad*) because you get to see Jack's frustration and anger come out when he confronts his former friend over what he has done.

* Admittedly, the scene doesn't exist in a vacuum so that's not really possible.

It struck me that Jack asked why Tony turned on "him" not his country. It reminds me of soldiers behind the line. At some point, they stop fighting for their country (not that they don't care), and they're fighting for their unit. You're fighting to save your life and the life of the guy next to you. Jack is in battle, and Tony is supposed to be the guy next to him -- regardless of what Tony thinks of US politics and policies.

It was pretty resonant and reflective that Jack points out he has nothing left to lose (he does... Kim and his grandson, though not his own life), and Tony ups the ante as a person who really has nothing to lose (his life, but nothing else, in his mind, and losing his life in that situation might be a relief).

It should be a bang up 2-hour finale next week.

I first thought the other guy was a bad guy, but then I recognized the actor who was playing the husband.

The main nit I have on the episode is that it took place between 5 AM and 6 AM. Peak service does start at 5 AM, but if they wanted more bang for their buck they would have done the attack at least an hour later.

In addition, Metro Center (or in 24-universe Washington Center) is not the end of the line. It is a major transfer point. There is no way that car would have been emptied out.

Also, where is Kim flying to and why on Earth would she be trying to get out on such an early flight?

Re: 24: Season Seven

I haven't been particularly happy with this season ever since the
cheap ploy to make Tony a bad guy.

However, last night's episode set up for what should be a really
huge finale that I am greatly looking forward to.

Back to Los Angeles. I can see her wanting to get back to her baby as soon as possible. Given that her flight was already delayed an hour (or whatever) at 5am, it's a few hours too early; most service starts around 6am. But since the show blows the roof off the nitpick scale, this one is pretty minor.

Re: 24: Season Seven

Well, I'm glad I'll be able to see the last 2 episodes on one night, and get it over with.

I do hope there will be a real comeuppance for the Mean Girl, and that Aaron will have a role in that.

Re: 24: Season Seven

Is it at all possible that Tony is actually good and that he killed Moss because he knew that Moss was a secret traitor?

And, that Tony has had to keep quiet on this for some reason to be revealed next week?

That would be harder to explain than what we are faced with now. He killed and facilitated others killing a bunch of FBI "redshirts" as well.

Re: 24: Season Seven

How depressing is it that we get a bounce back season of 24 that goes off the rails in the last 6 or so hours with the Tony surprise that will actually have a more significant impact in future seasons? Tony is one of the better characters on the show and now he's done for future seasons. Sure, they'll bring him back from the dark side, death, whatever, but that will only induce more audience eye rolling. They destroyed a good character for a plot arc that sucked. What a waste.

Re: 24: Season Seven

After the Starkwood plot died and Tony turning bad, this season has lost serious steam.
The "faceless" bad guys that want to deploy a bomb in D.C. for some reason that they refuse to tell us.
The "make the muslim the hero" plot they shoe horned in. I am surprized Jack didn't french kiss him on the spot.
Sigh, another crack assassination team at an airport, in the middle of the night, complete with everything the need (video, etc) to force Jack to change sides yet again.
I guess people in the 24 world never sleep, are ready for any plan, no matter how remote, no matter that 1 million things would have to fall into place to make it work (Kim being creeped out, asking strangers for assistance, etc) at a minutes notice.
Why would they waste a minutes worth of their resources on the daughter of some out of work CTU agent?
Their whole plan hinges on some elaborate plot to blackmail Jack?
Wouldn't it have been easier to just have some sniper assassin take Tony out before he gets in the van?
Think about it. Their magic canaster act was a failure, every resource of the government will go to tracking them down, they have maybe a couple of hours to cover their tracks, what do they do?
The bad girl, on her own, sets up this elaborate blackmail scheme for Jack to help them.
What if he didn't have his phone? What if he only talked to people with secure lines?
It just stinks of setting up some crazy season finale that makes no sense.
Man, and I thought the Starkwood stand off was preposterous!?!?

Wow. Weak Sauce. That is all. Just.. yeah..

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
The deathbed confession to the islamic cleric he met in earlier episodes was weird; but please, no more Kim as a stand in jack chasing around the airport. It took her forever to realize they were the bad guys. Enough already. What a weak ending to the season.

Re: 24: Season Seven

Wow, no love for Bauer?

It's just escapist fare. Accuracy and realism have always been a back seat to the action and suspense with 24. Yeah, you have to check your brain, but just let yourself enjoy it for what it is and not over-analyze it. If you do it's quite fun to watch. I am enjoying the season much more than S6, even with the outrageous plot points.

Can't wait for tonight's closer.

Jack's totals for the season: He killed 28 people (23 shot, 2 stabbed in the throat and throat slashed with a scalpel, 1 neck break, 1 stabbed with a knife and 1 screwdriver and 2 x 4) and he also killed 15 people in Redemption.

I thought this ending was very good (especially after the slowdown of recent episodes).

I loved Jack and Renee's discussion on the ethics of torture. I liked seeing Pierce and Ethan teaming up to stop Olivia and the President's reaction to the situation. It was fun seeing Chloe and Janis' last scene together. It was real cool seeing Renee turn into Jack with Taylor at the end of the episode. I liked that they subverted my expectation that Jack would kill Tony. I'm glad that they finally wrote Kim as being smart enough to track Bob but not get kidnapped... again.

And while I'm sure it'll be controversial, I don't have any problem accepting that Jack would reach out to an imam (or any holy man) since he thinks he's going to die. With some of terrible things that he's done and having some time to think about his end (rather than just being killed in a gun battle), I completely buy that he would want to talk to someone even if he just met them.

Despite the aforementioned recent slowdown, I think this season was pretty solid overall. It was a big comeback after S6. I'd say that the season falls about in the middle of the show's seasons (better than S1, S3 and S6 but not as good as S2, S4 or S5) and that's pretty damn good for a show in its seventh year.

It runs in the family. Maybe it'll be her baby's first word.
