24: Season Seven - Page 10

Re: 24: Season Seven

I have heard conflicting reports about FOx's plans for tonight. One report I read had a repeat of 24 starting in progress after the President's news conference. Other reports have the new episode at 9 PM. FOX's website has a new episode listed. Listings - 24 on FOX | TheFutonCritic.com has that as well with perhaps a repeat starting before it in Mountain/Pacific timezones.

Re: 24: Season Seven

I would guess that the President's news conference won't last a full hour, or will at least be timed to wrap up by the end of the hour. However, if it ran over, I would suspect that Fox would just start 24 a few minutes late. If you're using a DVR to be on the safe side I'd pad the end time a little.

Re: 24: Season Seven

I lost interest in the show a season or two back and could only stomach about half an hour of Redemption before I Xed it out of my DVR. But I finally checked out this season last weekend and it's been a blast.

32. henchman/Jack
33. henchman/Renee
34. henchman/Jack
35. henchman/Jack

I guess Jack is making up for lost time in the killing department.

Pretty crazy episode when they pyschologically torture people into thinking that they're going to kill their baby, Jack kills the baby's father, Dubaku is planning on killing a woman in a wheelchair and the President's husband gets shot. I'm sure he won't die but I was still surprised to see him catch a bullet.

And for fans of The X-Files, it looks like Howard Gordon recycled the name Samuel Aboah from a Season Four XF episode he wrote called Teliko.

Re: 24: Season Seven

You know, I've been pretty impressed but still cautiously optimistic for this entire season so far after the horrible one last year... but tonight's episode is the one that convinced me 99% of the way its back for real.

(That 1% doubt is because these are all episodes that were written much in advance, and while I don't doubt they're telling the truth when they say they've got a plan, I'll wait to see what the episodes look like after the first 8 planned ones are done.)

Re: 24: Season Seven

Poor Renee, she really had no idea what she's gotten herself into with being Jack's accomplice for Team "By Any Means Necessary". Hah!

Re: 24: Season Seven

Ok, I was wrong about that guy who blew up a while back. He wasn't a terrorist who could be distracted by a threat to his family. But the man in charge is major evil and... he has a girlfriend? And when his relationship is threatened at a crucial moment he leaves his men? Plot contrivance-wise this enabled himto avoid Jack's attack but I am hoping to hear a very good motive behind this romantic dalliance aside from the fact that starting a war, threatening millions and kidnapping the First Gentleman can make a guy all horny. Please let this be the prelude to something interesting.

Aside from this bewildering subplot this was grade A 24. Brilliantly staged and edited action with a difficult to predict conclusion.

It's not his relationship that is threatened. The sister is threatening to call immigration on him. That is a threat to his plot.

Re: 24: Season Seven

Best episode of the season so far.
Best line of the night (paraphrased): Madam President, "How do I know I can trust you?" and Jack, " with all due respect Madam President, ask around"

That was great. I also liked Vossler being shocked at the actions of Jack threatening his family when he has completely betrayed the country for money.

I still am finding it hard to believe that secret service agents could be bought out so easily, but I'll just have to suspend that disbelief.

The conversation between Dubaku's girlfriend and her sister was quite hilarious.

I get your point, though. Some organizations are just great at putting a lid on any problems they have. FBI, CIA, local cops, etc. I'd buy any of them having a turncoat as most have probably hit the news at some point. But when have you ever heard of someone in the Secret Service (or NSA) doing something illegal or having a turncoat? It's almost like for national security purposes (faith of the populace or something), any trouble those organizations have had has been swept under the rug (no news to the public). So yeah, it's a big mental hurdle to overcome. The delicious tidbit dangled out there somewhere being that at some point, Agent Pierce will make an appearance.

Absolutely. I almost jumped up out of my chair and applauded when he said that.

Probably the best episode of the season yet. Honestly, this season is so good I'm almost pinching myself to make sure it's real. Jack is back in full on badass form both with his actions AND his words. Oh, and I didn't ever think there could be a female Jack Bauer, but I'll be damned if Agent Walker isn't convincing me otherwise. She is hardcore.

Oh I would be almost willing to bet that the entire situation was designed to "get Dubaku out of the HQ when Jack and Walker attack"

Oh, absolutely!

I loved Agent Walker's struggle with her actions, and her answer to Jack..."not today". If that isn't Jack Bauer psychology, I don't know what is!

Re: 24: Season Seven

I agree that the girlfriend thing seems way out there and if it was just a device to get Dubaku out of there it just makes it even worse. But whatever...at least I'm sure next week we'll get to see Jack torture a woman in a wheelchair.

Re: 24: Season Seven

A few quote clarifications.

FBI Agent: "The rules are what make us better."
Jack Bauer: "Not Today"

(If that wasn't the best line of the episode, it's definitely up there at #2)

Jack Bauer: "Maybe you should get out."
FBI Agent: "Maybe I will." (considers what's at stake...) "Tomorrow."

(I think it's official... You witty guys need to come up with a cute name for her like you did Curtis ["Black Bauer"]).

It was a bit of a contrivance to get our bad guy out of the store basement, but it's a very small issue and a small price to pay for the excellent pacing and general excellence of this season.

I can think of one, but its probably less PC than even "Black Bauer":

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

How's "Rack Bauer" work for you?

But if he doesn't contact the woman again, the threat is over. Starting the relationship was his own threat to his own plot, as are any additional murders. She must make some damn fine lasanga.

The use of "with all due respect" automatically disqualifies it from "Best Line" consideration. I don't care if military/law-enforcement types actually do use it every other sentence, it's become a drinking game.

Re: 24: Season Seven

As far as "this thread being quiet" during the season, could it be that other avenues are being used to discuss 24. For example, I know that while the show is actually playing, over on Twitter the #24 hashtag is very busy, with updates coming non-stop as the show progresses. It's more "real time", but also doesn't take as much work to post as say a forum post.

Thanks Mikah! I was confusing them.

I like Joe's name - Rack Bauer. Priceless.

Re: 24: Season Seven

Great interview with Cherry Jones (the President) in the new TV Guide.

One thing that might be interesting to some around here from the interview, her partner in real life is Sarah Paulson, of HTF favorite STUDIO 60.

Although Jones went on to add something creepy, that the First Gentleman (Colm Feore) played Paulson's father in something.

I liked Jack's response to FBI boss' lecture: "You gonna give me the keys or not?"

Re: 24: Season Seven

Re: The Secret Service agents gone bad.
In the latest Bond movie, one of M's trusted bodyguards turns on her and others in MI6 during an interrogation.
In one line of dialogue, she laid out how absurd it was and how shocked she was it happened. The agent was assigned to her for years and knew everything about him.
In the 24 Universe, Secret Service agents can turn left and right for any small country leader that needs them.
Do the writers know what someone has to do to become an agent? These are people that are trusted to take a bullet for who they are protecting.
I feel like it is a slap in the face for us to believe not one but two (probably more) are working for McButo or whoever.

And don't get me started with the high school musical stuff at the FBI office.
Garafalo watching whatshisname like a hawk whenever he walks by.

Re: 24: Season Seven

The reason why this season - and particularly this most recent episode - is so much better than previous episodes? The kidnap plot lasted all of one hour. Before it would have dragged along for at least three. There was a real feeling of Jack against the clock again. And the fate of the First Gentleman, a guy the writers took time to make sure we cared about, was never certain (and still isn't). And Jack has found his groove. The new additions to the supporting cast are all good. 24 is back!

(Now, can they resurrect Michelle too...? "Michelle never died in that explosion, Tony. The woman who you saw die was an enemy agent who'd had her face reconstructed to resemble her and gain access to CTU. Now we gotta go rescue her!")

So who do you guys reckon is the FBI mole? My money's on Blondie (not Debbie Harry, you know who I mean!).

I still stand by my episode one prediction of Garafalo.

One thing I thought was strange was why was Ethan allowed in the room when Jack/Buchanon came to meet with the president? If truly no one can be trusted, there's no way they would have allowed him to stay.
