24: Season Seven - Page 6

Me too! I had also observed that Renee is sort of a mirror of Jack

I guess she must be the next "New Jack" candidate. What I mean by that, is that is seems like they are always trying to introduce a character that could be a successor to Jack should they decide to kill him off. Chase in season 3, then Curtis and then Doyle (Ricky Schroder's character) in Season 6.

I don't think we're talking about the same actress.

But I suppose Kevin could be right. Her character is definitely not reflective of the her off-screen personality.

Perhaps it's surprising that she would even want to be on a show that presents as much right wing sensibility as "24" does. But I suppose work is work.

Re: 24: Season Seven

This is not directed at any one person, but . . .

I'm sure I saw a request from the forum's owner to leave politics out of this thread. Like a good commander, Ron makes requests, and then he leaves it to us to elevate the threat level. So, please, leave the left/right, red/blue, liberal/conservative comments, oppositions, analogies, etc. at the door, along with comments on any individual's political views. Thank you, one and all.

On the subject of Janeane Garofalo, fans of The Larry Sanders Show (which, I'm sure, includes at least some of the writers and producers of 24) may remember that Mary Lynn Rajskub's character essentially took over for hers when Garofalo left the show. That history makes casting the two of them as dueling techno-nerds all the more hilarious, as far as I'm concerned.

Janis (Janeane Garofalo's character) kept Tanner's lawyers busy while Renee tortured him.

I think he is self-serving, although I feel it in my bones that his wife's plane is going to be crashed. I knew the first plane was not going to crash as there were too many shots of the one little boy on the plane.

Overall, a good start to the season. I am hoping and praying that it doesn't fizzle out around 6:00 AM, though.

Pretty decent start, but let's not forget...a lot of people (myself included) were feeling pretty positive about season six after the initial 4 episodes, with the nuke going off, Jack killing Curtis and all.

The good thing is that they made sure that these episodes didn't end with moments that you can't top.

Well, it may have been suspenseful - but I personally found the beginning of Season 6 to feel quite hallow. The nuke was shocking, but as far as Jack killing Curtis - I didn't really care (since I really never came to care for Curtis in the first place).

I'm loving this season because it's full of characters I actually give a damn about. That's what separates Season 6 from the others as far as I'm concerned. I just didn't care.

You're right. Forgot about that. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Actually, just the fact that they built the plane set and cast an actress with lines to play the wife suggests that there will be more to her story than we have seen. Otherwise, we would have everything we need from the manifest list with her name on it and one sided phone conversations with Hillinger. Possibilities include the plane actually going down, Hillinger being blackmailed into doing something, and who knows what else.

Regards,

Re: 24: Season Seven

Finally watched hours 3 & 4 last night and I've gotta say that was the most I've enjoyed watching TV in quite some time!!! What a great 2nd half of the premiere. It's great to have this show back and I really think the writers learned from the debacle that was S6. Can't wait for Mondays now!!!

Re: 24: Season Seven

We finally went down to watch all four hours of the season premiere last night and to my horror, the Charter Moxi had deleted both nights, I do not know what went wrong but no other shows were affected. There was plenty of space on the HD, I selected keep until space needed, there is no reason I can think of for 24 to disappear, I don't think Charter does a FOX on demand so we are considering just waiting till the dvd comes out.
I'm crushed ! I have a good mind to call and see if Charter will replace the box or go TIVO HD..

Edit: I can see the video from fox.com but we don't want to sit in front of the computer for four hours, is there any way to burn a dvd so that we can watch it in my theater?
If this is against forum rules per copying I apologize.

But if you watch those four hours (which is really three hours without commercials) now, you'll be caught up and can watch the next 20 episodes on your TV.

I know, I know, but there is so much difference between a 22" widescreen monitor and my 60" LCD with surround in a comfy couch vs. sitting in my office chair and my wife huddled next to me. I have become quite spoiled.

Edit: There is still the issue on how the episodes got deleted in the first place;no kids and my wife has no clue how to go into the Moxi menus. I think I am going to double dvr everything I want to make sure I want to see, esp. this week's new Lost! I have a Tivo S2 upstairs that has never failed me.

I don't blame you. I hate when I have to watch something online.

I know very little about iTunes but can't you watch on your TV or burn the episodes on a disc from there? Granted, I assume you have to pay though.

Re: 24: Season Seven

Well, I have an mp3 player but not an ipod so that is out. I was looking into the Tivo HD box that you can buy episodes for $1.89 but that will be costly initially so I will probably break down and sit here. Fox's video player seems more robust than ABC's when we had to watch a Lost we missed, it would freeze constantly requiring me to go back from the start and FF to where we were, also we were using my old 19" CRT so this will be an upgrade to that.

Re: 24: Season Seven

I got a SlingCatcher for just this sort of thing. It would be nice if it could connect straight to Hulu instead of having to use my laptop as an intermediate step, but it's a nice device to have if you find yourself watching a lot off the internet (or wanting to).

Re: 24: Season Seven

mylan, if I were you I would just wait for the DVDs, it's better that way anyway. Never understood the whole watching TV on the computer thing. Small? No High-Def? No thanks.

Of course there's always the other method which we're not allowed to speak of on these forums...

Well, we broke down and watched the first two episodes on computer and it wasn't bad. The first ep. had a full screen option so our field of vision with a 22" widescreen and sitting 2 ft. away was not bad at all. The second ep. did not have fullscreen, hopefully the third and fourth will, I couldn't figure out why but it was still (barely) acceptable. The video quality was not HD but close and the audio was decent with 4.1 surround.
In the future I am going to double record things I do not want to miss, Moxi downstairs and tivo upstairs.
Yep, for a moment I thought about that other thing as well.

Re: 24: Season Seven

One note about this season versus season 6 - six was written 'on the fly.' Realizing the mistakes made in 6, for season 7 the producers mapped out in advance the whole story arc.

This should improve the chances for a good season. In the end, it's about the writing. So far, I am very impressed. Here's hoping the quality holds up for the duration...

He shot Curtis but did not want to shoot her?

Jack's kills are really low this time around.

Well, he has been out of the game, so to say, for what, a year and a half or two years or something?

And I'm sure she'll end up surviving anyway, but his trying to protect her ended up leaving her to a worse fate, being buried alive.

Re: 24: Season Seven

Did Jack really think he was not going to have to bury her?

Quote:

Situation was a little different. Curtis was about to execute Jack's number one lead for finding the main bad guy. He didn't leave him much choice. Renee was just someone who got herself involved in something that was much bigger than she had thought.

I hope this isn't really the case, but it seems like in light of the heat "24" got for the last season, they may be overcompensating in the P.C. dept. Especially with how "bad" they are making torture seem.
