I can't believe that they are really trying to throw Jack under the bus for the six times he saved the county. And that he hasn't recived any pardons him. And now there is this dumb douche in the FBI saying "wahhhhhahh don't let Jack anywhere near the suspect" Why don't they realize to let Jack do what ever the hell he wants.

The government firewall idea is straight from the movie "Sneakers"

Re: 24: Season Seven

Thought last night's 2 hour premier was pretty darn good.

I think Cherry Jones is perfect for the role as President Taylor
as is a familiar "Shawshank Redemption" face, Bob Gunton as Ethan
Kanin.

My favorite character? Well, if we can leave politics out of this, I
think Janeane Garofalo is PERFECT in her role. Really enjoy watching
her act.

Just wanted to say so far...so good. The season is off to a nice start.

Re: 24: Season Seven

I only started watching last season or maybe the seaon before so could someone give me a brief synopsis on Tony?

Jack's new partner is quite fetching.

Clohe wannabe At first I was wondering if that was a new actress playing Clohe in which case I would have been really po'd.

I skipped Redemption. Is it necessary to watch it for S7? Seemed like a standalone thing.

Thanks

He was Jack's comrade (and occasional enemy) at the CTU in the first three seasons. In S4, he saved Jack's butt a couple times and reunited with his estranged wife. Then in S5, his wife was killed by a government conspiracy and he was 'killed' by one of the conspirators.

There's a pretty decent synopsis here: Tony Almeida - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

You don't have to watch it but it did give some more background on the President's son's suicide storyline and the stuff involving Sangala.

Another day, another blown "perimeter".

I was surprised that he was dead already. I thought this was something we would see this season.
If I recall the behind-the-scenes timeline correctly, they had already done seven or so episodes of this season when the writers' strike hit. When it was over, they did the movie, then continued the season. So the movie was never necessary; we got it to back-fill the story, and to get people geared up for the new season after a year-and-a-half off the air.

In the first two hours, they establish there's an African nation, who the bad guy is there, and (as usual) that there are shenanigans in the First Family. That's a pretty typical setup for a season. If you watch Redemption, then you know the (probable) "why" behind the suicide, see Carly Pope in her underwear, and the big-name actor that's playing the String Pulling Bad Guy, who was not even cast at this point during production.

You also see something happen to Jack's ears. But they look fine now.

You forgot to mention, his very hot wife. I would be pissed off too.

Re: 24: Season Seven

Well I think they filmed about 8 hours last season before the Strike. 24 always start strong, it about midway where they usually start to fall apart.

Re: 24: Season Seven

NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! Sorry for the near real time primal scream over what I just saw on hour 3. I'll edit later because I don't even want to use a spoiler.

EDIT: Sorry about that but the whole Bill, Chloe, and Tony working undercover didn't work for me. I really liked Tony as a bad guy. Of course, this being "24", nothing is at it appears to be. But despite my primal scream, I'm pretty much liking this season so far. I'm looking forward to seeing what is done with Renee now that tracking down Jack is personal.

That was quick to find out the truth with Tony... though I'm sure none of us are surprised.

It's still very early in the season but they've come back strong so far. I love anytime that they have "rogue Jack" operating outside the law. It was also nice to see that they didn't take the easy way out and have Tony be completely good the whole time he was under cover.

Thumbs up to Fox and 24 for not putting Mary Lynn Rajskub's or James Morrison's names in the opening credits. I knew they'd be back but at least, I didn't know the exact episode.

And I had a laugh at Chloe telling Jack that he "looked good [on C-SPAN] though".

Ha I intentionally looked away when they started showing the cast in the opening credits, because I didn't want to know, and they didn't show it anyway?

They weren't listed in the opening of the first one but they were listed in the second one. I'd assume that when the episodes are aired individually (like on DVD), they probably credit them during the end credits.

Re: 24: Season Seven

Loving crazy Renee where the ends justify the means.

Loving the minor "Once and Again" reunion by having both Jeffrey Nordling (Larry) and Ever Carradine (Erica, the blonde FBI chick).

Nice escape by Tony and Jack CTU-style.

Loving the arc that Buchanon has been on for these past 4-5 seasons.

Loving that Chloe is still the moral compass of the show.

Not loving the Prez's hubby storyline, but at least it ties into main plot in terms of the conspiracy with influence inside the US administration.

One complaint I have is I think Cherry Jones is horribly cast as president.

Agreed. She's not working for me at all so far. It's not because she's a woman either. I think even Sherry Palmer would have been much more believable as a female President. I don't think it'll be enough to make me not enjoy the show, but it's there.

Quote:
I miss the days of Haysbert as Prez Palmer. Now that was a President.

Agreed.

As for this season in general, I like the FBI Special Agent in charge. It's good how things developed with Tony, and it's good that they didn't just take the simple way out in explaining how he finds himself in this situation. Is the character Jon Voight played being played by someone else now? We haven't seen him at all.

Re: 24: Season Seven

I LOL when the Prez's hatchet man basically called Larry an idiot on the phone.

Re: 24: Season Seven

Well, four hours in and I'm pretty happy so far. I would agree with the others though that don't find Cherry Jones very "Presidential." Now that we've had the Jack, Tony, Bill and Chloe reunion, I have only one request of the producers...can we have Mandy back?

Re: 24: Season Seven

Stupidest line so far is the bad guy complaining that what Renee was doing was illegal. Just not sure if it was intentionally so.

Quote:

As I hinted earlier, they had not even cast him at this point in the production. Kind of like how in Season One, no one was thinking about Dennis Hopper in the first several hours. But the M.O. is: as they move up the conspiracy chain, you have to have bigger-name actors. And when they made the movie, they got to throw him in there.

Re: 24: Season Seven

The worst thing about this season so far is J.G. Her acting style and delivery is horrid and I hope her role diminishes. Her facial expressions and mannerisms during the whole escape sequences are cringe inducing. To me she is trying, and failing, to mimic Mary Lynn rather than play her own part.

I thought she was quite good. I love how her character was all mousey and whiney with the the bosses, but then Bossy and in charge with Hillenger, who she clearly is in charge of.

Also her "Duel" with Chloe, with Chloe on her Mac and Janene on her Dell stuff was priceless.

Re: 24: Season Seven

Give me a huge break re: the red haired FBI agent (who looks like she stepped out of the make up desk at Macy's) getting crucial information by squeezing some oxygen tubes.
All the guy had to do was fake being unconcious or tell her anything. He knew once his lawyers were there, he was safe.
She posed zero threat.

I enjoyed last nights episode more then Sunday but this storyline (which is going to change quickly I bet) is very weak.
And the Sangoli stuff? Who cares.
America is tired as being thought of the world's police and now 24 wants us to feel guilty for another country's war?
The head of the country is in a nice estate while his countrymen are dying.

It was a surprise that Tony had been working for Emerson for real for 3 years before deciding to become undercover.

I didn't even notice this. Thanks for pointing it out. I was also surprised that the "good conspiracy" is just the three of them.

So, is Hillinger actually one of the leaks or is he just self-serving? I was surprised that he went as far as using the FBI boss's Level 5 clearance.

Regarding, Mr. Taylor's quest ... I was thinking that something was going to happen to Sam before she got to meet him. Now, something has to happen to that flash drive she gave him. I don't think they can kill him without raising suspicion, but you never know on this show.

It seemed there were quite a few things during the episodes so far that are taking place "tomorrow." If this was a regular series where we would actually see the next day, we might be more concerned about some of them. As it is, we know there are 20 hours left to wrap up most of what is going on.

Me too! I had also observed that Renee is sort of a mirror of Jack (quickly becoming a rogue herself).

Re: 24: Season Seven

Cheers to the producers for bringing Chloe back this season for obviously comedic reasons.

Jeers to the producers on the FOX network for bringing in Janeane Garofalo (sickeningly liberal female comic) and a lady prez. Why didn't they just cast Gina Davis and bring this thing full circle?

No offense Ron, as you appear to be a fan.

My guess would be that he's just trying to make sure his wife's plane lands and he's not a bad guy. Of course, someone at the FBI will catch him so they can get more story for that character and the real bad guy can keep going unimpeded.

I assume that there's a bad guy in the FBI (since they keep saying it and because they probably want to give an FBI face in the conspiracy) but I don't have a clue who it is. Everyone I would suspect (like Moss or Hillinger) seems too obvious and Janis and Renee seem like good guys.

Yeah, she really seems to be bringing that liberal edge to the show by having her character aid in the torture of an injured man in a hospital.

I actually like her character in this. Usually, she's like Dennis Leary and just plays smart-ass roles. Being mousy actually shows she might have some range.

Garofalo in real life? The less publicity she gets the better.

Sidebar: Did anyone else notice the Los Angeles city hall builiding, visible onscreen for a fraction of a second, as Jack ran across the parking deck roof (after breaking out of the FBI building)? Oops.

Re: 24: Season Seven

So far, much better than last season!

Cheers to Chloe. Still the moral compass, still that same look on her face.

And a big cheer to putting Jack, Tony, Bill, and Chloe in their own 'organization'!! Purely ridiculous, hilarious, utterly geeky, and fantastic all at once!

The Daily Planet building? I'd imagine that if you're familiar with the Los Angeles skyline, you'll see alot of it this year.

Also during that sequence, Tony jumped from the parking garage and landed on a car and the windows shattered out but when he turned around to cover Jack, the windows were undamaged.
