Black Friday (11/23/2007)

We are one month away from one of the most-looked forward days of the year. The one day where we will endure the madness of thousands of crazed shoppers storming the stores at the crack of dawn to take advantage of the Post-Thanksgiving Bargains. It is the day that has become to be known as

BLACK FRIDAY!

Anyhow has anyone got any knowledge on what's going to be offerd on sale this day? I know a lot of retailers like to keep it a secret as long as possible but still....

Re: Black Friday (11/23/2007)

It's against forum policy to post sale prices ahead of time, so don't count on seeing Black Friday prices here until the week of.

And this thread will probably be closed.

Some of the websites that catalog the deals ahead of time are already up and posting the info they have so far. Google is your friend.

Wal-Mart is threatening legal action against any websites that post their BF info early.

I don't think I have the energy this year.

William: This is one of the popular sites. They are currently running stories at that very site explaining how Wal-mart is threatening legal action for an early unveiling of its BF deals.

There are currently legal disputes at other DVD websites about the early unveiling of weekly flyer ads. (I, for particular reasons, have been trying to pay close attention!) The retailers take this stuff very seriously.

Buy an HD-DVD player, get every HD-DVD movie free at any retailer.

Plus a $100 gift card.

This is a GREAT deal (to get every HD-DVD movie free)!!

I'm sure you meant to say, "get any..."

We ought to be able to speculate or list desired deals, as long as nobody leaks actual confirmed sales.

I'm thinking that post was a joke. A $100 GC for buying an HD DVD player? Doesn't seem likely.

Re: Black Friday (11/23/2007)

I made the mistake of going to Wal-Mart on Black Friday last year. I had planned on buying quite a few of their sale DVDs but left the store with only 2. Most of their BF sale DVDs were only available in fullscreen. This year, I'm saving up my money to buy from Amazon, hopefully they will have a bunch of TV season sets for $12.99 again this year.

Re: Black Friday (11/23/2007)

Last Year I got seasons 1-4 of Smallville at "Wally World" for $15.00 Each. I also picked off Season 1 of Charmed, Firefly and Christmas Classics from CC along with a few Movies. Heaven knows what will happen this year! (I'm hoping someone will have a Camcorder on sale, the one I had DIED on me last week, so I'm hoping to replace it.)

Well certainly don't want to upset the fine, moral and ethical folks of Wal Mart.

Re: Black Friday (11/23/2007)

I think I pretty much skipped the BF rush last year. We went to Target later in the day just for general shopping, and I was able to snag a bunch of Fox TV season sets for about $16 apiece.

The year before, I went to BB to try and get a camcorder, which they were all out of. I grabbed a big stack of cheap DVDs, but left 'em behind when I saw the lines at the registers. (I ended up getting a camcorder that evening at Brandsmart, which involved a checkout line of preposterous length for a moderately nice deal, but at that point I figured what the heck.) I think 2005 was the year when things got REALLY crazy -- before that it was fun to get up early and hit the stores. Now that huge crowds know about the deals, it's kind of a hassle.

I need a new laptop though. And I guess I could use an HD-DVD deck. . .

That's exactly what I'm hoping I can get or the wife will see how nice it would be for her to get it. Google, here I come.

Re: Black Friday (11/23/2007)

I need to de-confuse myself beforehand as to which HD-DVD decks are capable of the full specs. Aren't some of them still not 1080p?

Target did the sale thing -- plenty of $5 DVDs, but mostly all were full screen. And by full screen I mean old fashioned 1.33:1 shaped screens. And like everyone else they had Smallville for $15 or $16, and seasons of 24 for under $20. Chances are they will again since their aisles look pretty much the same as last year.

CircuitCity usually puts on sale the very same DVDs that they regularly put in their markdown bins every other month anyway. So if you still don't have Blade, you'll be in luck. Again.

I don't expect anything new or good, like the overpriced Rome or Carnivale season sets, to go on sale.

Re: Black Friday (11/23/2007)

I already had most of the Smallville seasons, got them for about $25 before BF, and the newest season I got for Christmas. The crowds and long lines aren't worth it to get cheap DVDs that will eventually be on sale for as cheap or cheaper in a few months anyways. I discovered that while following the weekly bargains threads on this site. I'm hoping Amazon puts TV sets like V:the series and other sets like that on dirt cheap again, I missed out on them last year.
