Re: Your favorite childhood book?
This isn't a joke necropost revival. Not only is this a fun topic that could probably continue with new people, but I have a "name that book" question. I don't think I'll have any luck, since I remember precious few details, but I'll give it a try.It was a Dell Yearling book, with the same trade dress as this one:

It was from the same era--probably a '70s/early '80s book. I think the border was gold or yellow, and the image was of a boy in an autumnal suburban setting. For some reason, I always got the title confused with "The Fish That Ate Pittsburgh." I think it either had fish or monster in the title. I think it involved a little boy who was sad because his parents were divorced or divorcing, or his mother had died. I think he spent time at the movie theater.
Not a lot to go on, but this is a book I'd like to revisit. It used to be in a drawer at my parents' house, but the last time I looked, it was gone.
Edit: I think I found it. Betsy Byar's "The Two-Thousand Pound Goldfish." "Abandoned by a mother who is hiding from the FBI, Warren escapes into horror movie fantasies while he waits for her return." The cover art I've found doesn't look like I remember, but I think this may be it anyway. It was an Apple Scholastic book, not Dell Yearling. I found the title fairly quickly with a limited search on AbeBooks.
Tony mentioned a book about a mouse who rode a motorcycle. I think I found it in my searches. Beverly Cleary's Ralph S. Mouse and The Mouse and the Motorcycle.
