HELP - room length verses cost

17’4” x 14’5” x 8’9” verses 22’6” x 14’5” x 8’9”

I’m anxious to start construction on theater and have a question. The area of the basement I’m considering measures 17’4” x 14’5” x 8’9”. Directly behind this area is a rough-in for a bathroom. I can extend the length of the room by 5’2” if I re-plum the bath.

My question – is it worth the expense / labor to add an extra 5’2” to the length of my HT. I have not priced the effort, but I assume busting up the concrete floor will not be cheap or easy.

A picture of my previous HT is attached. We just moved and I need to start construction!

Re: HELP - room length verses cost

I would say that it will greatly depend on your screen size. As you don't want to be too close to a big screen. I think that the cost and work involved in making it longer might not be worth it. even with a distance like 17 ft, I think it will be ok. Long as your viewing distance from screen isn't closer than 11 ft you should be able to use a 106 inch screen. just my opinion, that would be my plan.

Re: HELP - room length verses cost

I think that another factor would be how many rows of seats do you want? If you want to do 2 rows then you would probably need that extra 5'. If you are doing just one row 17' is plenty of room.

By the way, your previous theater looked great!

Cheers,
