A film similar to John Waters' films?

Hello good people.

I wonder if you could help me with one strange question.

Some 8-9 years ago I saw late at night one film on TV. I would very much like to get it, but I don't know ANYTHING about it.

- From what I remember, the film's vibe and the aesthetics were similar to those of John Waters' films. But it's NOT one of his (I have them all).

- I'm 99% sure that this film is from the 80's or 90's, and 100% sure that it's from UK or US.

- All I can remember are some blurry images... I remember LOTS of pink color. Yes, I know it sounds bizzare, but that's almost all which I can remember. (No, I don't use drugs or alcohol.) I remember one room from the movie with pink walls, and I even think those walls were fluffy. The film was bizzare, I think it's not comedy, but it may have humorous elements. It's not very serious movie. I remember that theme of prostitution has something to do with the plot. One of the main characters (male) is a pimp of some kind (if I remember it correct). And there is some fat lady with lots of make-up, and her young daugter, and I think that lady wants to keep her daughter away from the pimp. Sorry, that's all.

Thank you for reading this silly little post. I would appreciate any help.

Re: A film similar to John Waters' films?

I doubt if you're talking about Wild at Heart, but there are some similarities to what you are describing:

It's from 1990. The main plot is about a woman trying to keep her daughter away from a guy who she thinks is no good, although he's not a pimp. The mother is overweight, but she's not huge or anything. She definitely wears too much makeup (particularly in one scene involving red lipstick).

There is a good deal of pink in the movie, and it could certainly be described as "bizarre" (it is directed by David Lynch, who tends toward the bizarre). It's not a comedy, but it has some humor.

It does NOT have the outsider actors and poor production values of a classic John Waters movie, which is the main reason why I doubt this is the movie you're looking for. It does take place in a similarly seedy American underworld, though.

Anyway, it's similar enough to your description that I thought it was worth a mention.

Re: A film similar to John Waters' films?

Thank you for your effort.
Although I haven't watched "Wild at Heart", I know that it's not the movie I'm trying to find. Here in Croatia, "Wild" is one of the best known Lynch's movies. But just to be sure, I've just checked screenshots from "Wild". I see a lot of outdoor scenes, while this other one, "mystery" film - is mostly indoors, or maybe even completely indoors (at least I think I remember it that way). The male character is tall, slim, with small moustaches (or maybe even with small beard also), and wearing the white or pink suit.
Thanks again.

Eat The Rich?

Re: A film similar to John Waters' films?

No.
But thank you, anyway. Now I'm interested to see that film, because Lemmy (from Motorhead) has a role in "Eat the Rich". And one reviewer wrote that it's same genre as Waters' films, but better.
Well ok, if we can't find out what the mystery film is, maybe you can recommend some other films which are similar to Waters' works?

It's not Lust in the Dust, is it?

No, of course not. I have it, the world's only trash-western.

Re: A film similar to John Waters' films?

Please forgive me for bringing back to life this very old and unproductive thread of mine, but I just can't forget about it. With so much time passed, maybe now there's someone here who could know this film...??

And while I'm here again, I have another similar question, but I believe this one will be easier. (I don't want to start ANOTHER thread like this, I would feel guilty, although I'm not sure for what.)

Somewhere around 1990 I saw a movie on TV. Now I would like to know which movie is that, to try to find it and watch it again. (Please don't ask me why I have these strange urges, I don't know.) I think we could clasify it as a futuristic B-movie.
Story is about a group of people who are travelling in some kind of a strange bus/van-like vehicle across a desert.
Images that I remember are somewhat like from Mad Max 2 & 3, but not that good. I think this movie is also set in a post nuclear-war world. I think that radiation was also there in the story (or maybe just too hot sun) and that stopping the vehicle and getting out was not such a good idea.

I have used all my not-so-small knowledge of searching the imdb and yahoo - but without any result.

So, again... help... please... anyone...?

No. I have Forbidden Zone. Thanks anyway.

Re: A film similar to John Waters' films?

The "bus/van-like" film sounds very much like 'Damnation Alley'.

Although the description doesn't match exactly, the John Waters-like film sounds like it could be either 'But I'm a Cheerleader' (a film with LOTS of pink), or possibly one of the two 'Freeway' films.

I've just checked those "Freeway" and "Cheerleader" films. I'm afraid that's not even close. But thanks for the effort.
Now, "Damnation Alley" on the first glance really looks like it could be that other mystery film, but I was reading about it last night and it seems to me that's not it. But close enough. Just to be sure, I'll check "Damnation Alley" these days anyway.

Re: A film similar to John Waters' films?

DAMNATION ALLEY came to my mind first, too. If it's not that, it could be BATTLETRUCK (aka "Warlords of the 21st Century").

Re: A film similar to John Waters' films?

Ok... I saw "Damnation alley" - that's not it. In the movie I'm trying to find, 95% of time characters are in that vehicle or around it, and all time in some desert with VERY bright sun (but not Sahara-type of desert with sand dunes, more like Mad Max 1&2 type of desert). And that vehicle is like some armored futuristic ragged bus, which has it's route, and it's dangerous route.
By the way, "Damnation alley" is really horrible, zero. I'm not able to find "Battletruck", but I'm almost sure that's not it also.
As always - thanks.
