Looking for some spec info on the SVS TV-12 Ultra woofer

I’ve got an opportunity to buy a used 5 year old SVS PC-Ultra that has a blown BASH amp, CHEAP. I’m considering removing the TV-12 driver and building a custom sub box to house it in for my car. Anyone heard of anyone else doing this? Well, I’m looking for the following information:

What’s its ohm rating?
What are the dimensions (depth, width, etc…) of the driver?
How much volume does it displace?
What size sub box would be optimal for that driver? I assume 1-2 cu feet
Would a sealed or ported sub box work best? I’m leaning toward sealed as I’m looking for SQ, not SPL.

Already checked the SVS site. Plenty of feature info, but couldn’t find any technical data/specs. TC Sounds built the driver, but their website was no help.

Any information would be appreciated.

Contact SVS. They may not give you specs, but they may help you come up with a box design. I have read of people using these drivers for the car before. TC no longer builds SVS drivers...so you could also consider contacting TC directly.

The original SVS ultra driver was really an Audiomobile Mass 2012. The TV-12 is just a 2012 on steroids. Not much changed in the T/S parameters or it would not have worked as a drop in replacement.

You will never get parameters from SVS. We have asked for years. TC Sounds has always been tight lipped about OEM customers (unless the customer published T/S parameters). Your two options are use the published Audiomobile parameters or buy Woofer Tester 3 from Parts Express.

And if you wait a little while, AE Speakers and Sundown Audio are teaming up for another underhung design. They have been talking about a 15" version as well.

A little SVS comparison:

Thanks for the feedback guys! Yeah' I kinda' thought SVS would be less than willing to part with that information so that's why I posted it here. But hey, guess it wouldn't hurt to email them, all they can say is "go pound sand".

Robert_J, the Ultra I'm looking at does have the newer TV-12 driver and yes I did read that review from the picture you posted.

Hey John, still loving your DVD-2900? I remember you and I bought ours about the same time. What a silky sweet player for SACD's and DVD-A's. I still love mine!

I buy a another amp to drive that unit by bypassing the dead amp. Keep that driver in the original enclosure.

The original enclosure isn't exactly "car friendly"

Yep, still loving it though it is pretty much just for SACD and DVD-A these days, since I picked up an Oppo 980 for the video side.
