Weekly RoundUp 10-16-2007 - Page 2

Re: Weekly RoundUp 10-16-2007

Any confirmation yet if Best Buy will be offering a double-sized Grindhouse slipcover with purchases of "Planet Terror" like they did with the Kill Bill movies? There was rumor of this last month when "Death Proof" was released. If not, Wal-Mart's a lot closer to where I live and I'm sure they can beat Best Buy's $17.99.

There's nothing in the ad so most likely, it's not happening. I think I had heard that Future Shop in Canada had a box like that back when Death Proof came out though.

Jason,

How did you get CC to do 'buy one, get one' on HD-DVDs?

I think I remember reading about FYE having that double slipcover with preorders of DP.

Re: Weekly RoundUp 10-16-2007

All I can afford this week is the Transformers. I'll just buy the 2 disc SE, I was thinking about the Wal-Mart exclusive but I'd rather have the bonus materials disc over the prequel.

There's a full-page ad for the set in the current "Entertainment Weekly" that states the following:

15" Transforming Optimus Prime DVD Case
Exclusive Comic Book
Robo-Vision decoder to unlock online content

Not sure if that helps you or not!

I just took all six discs to the register and they all came up BOGO. The receipt shows a package price of half off all 6 titles. (I checked with someone in the department on Constantine and Sky Captain first...he rang them up and half off each.)

Re: Weekly RoundUp 10-16-2007

^ This deal also works on the HD DVD of Transformers.

Re: Weekly RoundUp 10-16-2007

Mike, don't forget to take advantage of the BOGO Blu-ray sales going on now.

CONGRATS!

You deserve it for all the work you've done with the Roundup.

Re: Weekly RoundUp 10-16-2007

Did anyone get the WalMart exclusive? I was really torn on getting that or the regular 2disc SE. I figure I'd be rebuying in HD at some point and all those features will be imported, but I figure the WalMart movie might be crap. I picked up the SE but will wait to see what people have to say about the WalMart disc before I open it.

OK, in case anyone's interested, the Transformers: Beginnings bonus disc in the gift pack at wal-mart isn't all that great (I just watched it) Peter Cullen has two, maybe three lines and that's it, so those of you wanting more Optimus Prime are SOL. Beyond that, the disc is basically a decently-edited, pseudo-animated version of the prequel comic that IDW put out before the movie's release. It's really nothing more that a flashy presentation of the comic book's panels along with some fairly good voiceover and sound effects work. All in all, I probably won't hang on to mine forever, and if I'd had a better idea of this "bonus" disc's content, I probably would have passed...

Scott: Thank you...very much.

I may just have to look at this week's Blu-ray deals a little more closely now! Funny thing is, when Ken had posted here about those prices at BB, my jaw really dropped (those are incredible B-R prices!) but I hadn't heard yet about the contest results (then my jaw really dropped!)!

You could have knocked me over with a feather when I got the news. I cannot remember the last thing I "won". Especially a cutting-edge piece of electronics gear!

Re: Weekly RoundUp 10-16-2007

Thanks Scott. The cover makes it look like a CGI movie but I doubted it'd be that well made. Glad I went with the SE.

Wow, Mike is both a helpful MF via this thread and a lucky MF elsewhere.

Congrats!

Actually, maybe you do now that your software costs have nearly doubled!

Picked up Transformers HD DVD and Next HD DVD for $30 total at Circuit City with the BOGO 'secret sale' that's not so secret! Woot!

Re: Weekly RoundUp 10-16-2007

Picked up A Few Good Men Blu-ray at BB for $9.99 ($14.99 minus five via a Reward Zone coupon). Am seriously thinking about going to Circuit City to pick up 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later under the BOGO sale. Tempting, tempting...

Went back for more, just returned with Troy DC ($12.50) and Shooter ($15).

I thought it was the SE with an extra WalMart disc, now I'm ticked off!

Re: Weekly RoundUp 10-16-2007

I'm a little surprised that at my local Best Buy store tonight they had NO copies of The Jazz Singer in any of their typical new release locations. It was also not in the "musicals" section (which consists of just a few underfilled shelves).

It seemed as if all their copies were quietly tucked away in the drama section.

======================================

Anyone RZ members should remember that 10% coupon I posted in another thread. It is still good (until 10/22).

======================================

Next week I'm going, again, to try and pre-order Ratatouille and get $5 off Meet the Robinsons.

======================================

And I got the last Steelbook edition of Planet Terror (blind buy) at my local BB! My local store usually has a LOT of their exclusive steelbooks...but that did not seem to be the case tonight.

Also, don't forget to use that $5 manufacturer's Coupon for Planet Terror that can be found in your copy of Death Proof (if, indeed, you purchased Death Proof!).

Re: Weekly RoundUp 10-16-2007

There was an ad in yesterday's New York Times for FYE. Apparently they have some sort of exclusive steelbook packaging for Transformers available.

Darn. I don't see it in today's NYT...and yesterday's is already gone (the transient nature of newspapers...).

Eric: Target did a nice job getting that exclusive Transformers packaging, eh?

Re: Weekly RoundUp 10-16-2007

Congratulations on winning the blu-ray player, Mike - it couldn't go to a more deserving HTF member. You're here every week for us, and the work of yourself and Patrick is greatly appreciated!

Mike, my reaction was EXACTLY the same a few weeks ago. I got the unit in the mail the other day and I'm finally hooking it up tonight - can't wait!

Michael: We'll have to start an exclusive club!

And thanks to everyone, again, for all the nice words. The initial reaction of shock is now percolating into a sense of excitement (new electronics!) combined with a little concern that my budget system is going to be overwhelmed by it's new family member.

But this news all-the-sudden has me learning a whole new technology (HDMI, lossless, HD codecs, etc.) and checking out bargains for HD software. These are whole new worlds to me. Very exciting (and a little bit intimidating even).

Re: Weekly RoundUp 10-16-2007

Congrats, Mike!

Now. . .can anyone verify yet whether that neato Target Transformers package includes the regular 2-disc set?

(Assuming, of course, that I temporarily lift my boycott of BD-droppin' doodiehead studios to pick that up. . . )
