Need some help with IE issues

I have been using the same computer with IE 7.0 on it for some time. Lately I have been getting a lot of popups that tell me that an internet connection could be found and to either Try Again or Work Offline. This happens after I have not posted or typed in anything for a few mintues. I have also be having issues with being online and after about 20 mintues or so losing my internet connection all together. I usually end up having to reboot my PC to be able to reconnect to the internet. This just started happening a few weeks ago.

So, the question I have is does this sound like an issue with my NIC card or software related? Is there some sort of setting in the network connections setting that has a time out feature? Any suggestions as to what could be going on?

I think this is less an issue with IE and more a possiblt problem with your connection itself. I am assuming you are using a cable modem to connect to the internet? If so, when you see this behaviour have you tried to "reboot" the cable modem itself instead of the computer (basically you unplug the modems power, wait 10 seconds, and plug it back in).

You may also want to try re-aquiring the DHCP address. Open a Command Prompt and type the following: ipconfig /release

Then type: ipconfig /renew

This will re-aquire your internett address and hopefully get you connected again.

Yeah, I have rebooted my cable modem and my hub. I have also done the release and renew of the IP address several times already with it still cutting out on me. Like I said I will be online and then all of a sudden not have access anymore. It just makes me think it is my NIC card going out. I changed out my cable modem a few months ago for a new one so it shouldn't be the modem. My hub isn't that old so it should be ok. It is just odd that it just started doing this a month or so ago.

I've seen NICs go bad, and it's a cheap fix, so it's worth a shot to swap it out. Or if it's an integrated NIC suspected of going bad, try a NIC card that'll fit in an empty slot on the motherboard.

Yeah, its intergrated on the motherboard. I'm going to pick up a new card in a couple of days to see if that fixes the problem.

I had a problem with my router where it would first stop connecting the DNS servers and then finally die. Manually setting the DNS servers in Windows and powering down the router at night seemed to do the trick. It sounds sort of similar, in that you lose the web before you lose the internet.

The router is new but my hub is about 5 years old. I was planning on getting
a new hub in the next few days to see if that makes a difference.

I just picked up a new Wireless-N router hub which is working great except now my Ethernet printer bridges it won't find. It is supposed to be compatable with 802.11b but it will not find them at all. It found my wife's laptop which is 802.11g and my daughters 802.11g wireless G without any problems. I am going to go pickup up a couple other wireless G USB units so I can attached them to my HPTC and ReplayTV. Hopefully that will resolved the issue with that.

I was able to get my Ethernet Bridges unit to work but using the default name for the router and turning off encryption for the wireless network. The only one I really need is the one I use for my ReplayTV. The problem here is that I don't have anyway to tell the bridge what MAC address and password to use with the network. I remember reading something about pluging the bridge into my router/hub and then program it in there. Anyone do anything like that with one of these units?

After doing some research it looks like I am going to have to take my WET11 bridge and plug it into my router to program it with the WEP it needs so I can go secure on my network.

I have been experiencing a similar problem with IE7. Depending on which website I visit, I will get knocked offline. The browser goes into work offline mode and a box pops up, trying to make me go dial up.

I have to go to Outlook and click send/recieve to get back online.

Again, only happens on certain websites and only on my XP Vaio.
