What I want to know, quite simply, is which of all of these films have been improved in terms of IMAGE TRANSFER & AUDIO QUALITY from the original releases. Please do not turn this into dozens of replies about how I should just buy the box sets or recommending the new 75th Anniversary Editions of Dracula and Frankenstein. I am merely asking which of these transfers have been directly ported over from the old discs. Furthermore, which if any of these sets are missing any extras from the original Universal releases?
I am asking for multiple reasons... These are among my very favorite films and astonishingly enough, I have never owned previous copies of them on DVD. I ran out and purchased the first wave of the Legacy Collections when they were first released, in that ultimate set with the busts. I overpaid in retail and found that most of the sets packaged within seemed to be damaged and some discs were floaters. So I returned the set the very next day and have never repurchased the films since. They are sorely overdue for finding a place in my collection!
I did however, recently come upon the original "Classic Monster Collection" releases of Frankenstein, Bride Of, Dracula, The Wolf Man, The Mummy and Creature. I was able to purchase these all brand new from a sale at only a few dollars!
I want to own all of the films from the Legacy sets however now that I have a number of these titles in their original releases and with all the extras, I am unsure of how I want to purchase these. I do remember that I strongly disliked the packaging of the new Legacy sets and I am in no hurry to unload these original discs. They also look a lot more elegant and classy with their beautiful poster covers. I'm thinking of maybe buying each of the 2-disc Legacy Collections and simply replacing the discs from each set into the individual keepcases. Nicer looking and much more convenient on my shelf and in terms of viewing.
But I'm not sure I even want or need to own all of these sets now if the transfers are just direct ports. I want to be able to weigh in the decision, but in order to do so, would like to know which of the films have since been improved. This includes any corrections made to previous glitches in the soundtracks, framing, etc.
If anyone could give a very basic rundown of this, I would appreciate it!
Thanks.
