With the exception of one Deep Space Nine episode, I've only seen the guy who plays him in nothing but mean bureaucratic jackass types. That should have tipped me off that he was the one! It's typecasting!

Exactly. With Daniel Pritchard still on the loose--after apparently committing two murders and framing Warrick for one of them--how could they figure Warrick shouldn't be in fear of further retribution from the guy?!?! Kind of a big plot hole if you ask me.

For some reason, I had a sick feeling that Nick was going to sneak out the back door of the coffee shop and plug Warrick. No reason to think this except for some of the hype I read at tvguide.com. Glad I was wrong.

I guess I just figured if something involved a major plot development that some people might not yet be clued into, it should be spoilerized in case they didn't want it ruined.

There are still people here on the HTF spoilering the closing plot devices to films such as The Mist and Soylent Green in case there is someone out there who may not have experienced it.

The problem with it is that it adds confusion. Unless the poster is real good with the spoiler intro like "I couldn't believe in last night's ep when...[spoiler]" or "I heard an interview with an actor where he gave away that the end of the season cliff hanger is...[spoiler]" the reader can't know if something is from last night or not. So the cautious people just avoid all of them. But every so often you can tell that there is a conversation going on in spoiler tags that is about what you've already seen ... so you start reading and WHAM ... you run into a real spoiler. The forum rule is pretty simple, only post what's been in an aired episode not including previews. If we stick to it, there shouldn't be any issues.

As for the endings of those movies ... were they in threads about the movies? That would be strange. Usually the only time you see something old spoilerized is when you are discussing it in a thread about something else and are comparing them. Like if you were comparing something Jack Bauer did in the Lost thread, you would want to spoilerize it for people who hadn't yet seen 24.

I really loved Jay Karnes (Dutch from The Shield) turning up as "IA Officer Wagenbach" (at least according to the IMDB.)

I'm just waiting for Det. John Munch to fly in from New York to work on a case.

Overall, it was a good episode but it was a real bummer to see Warrick go. While it will certainly create a very personal and interesting case that will probably run all next season, I will miss the Warrick character and Gary Dourdan.

It's a real stretch to see that killing Warrick will really resolve the problem for the undersheriff. A mole inside the police department is going to looked into by more than just Warrick (even if it wasn't personal to the other investigators). And now, he's got Grissom on his ass which is probably about the worst thing that could happen to you if you're trying to get away with a murder. It's going to be great to see Grissom bring him down.

Well, I didn't see that one coming. The way they were telegraphing that ending, I read it more like Warrick may have been plotting something else. And they were going to foreshadow some more trouble for him. But knowing he was leaving the show, but not knowing if his departure was decided before or after this was filmed, I kinda figured he was going to be doing something even more reckless.

As was already written above, Nick is still close by, so if they didn't know if he was leaving yet, they have a way to save his life.

It's too bad he's going out this way. As his character was constructed from the very beginning, he was always having some kind of problem that threatened his job, gambling, divorce and the recent drug usage.

Just my $.02 worth of opinion but I don't think we need to put in spoiler alerts for plot lines in an episode that has been aired. I DVR'ed Thursday's episode and purposely stayed away from this thread until I watched the episode. IMO, it is not up to the forum to hide major plotlines for an episode that has just aired. It's very simple - if you haven't watched the episode yet, don't go to a thread discussing the show until you have seen the episode.

Didn't Eckley very early on in the series accuse Grissom of being naive to politics and not playing the game? Seems Grissom is still like that, and perhaps he didn't see this coming. Though maybe the others on the night shift thought of it(?).

If Warrick is truely dead, Maybe we see Sara return for an episode or two for his funeral and to help bring down the bad guys.

Replacement CSI, not replacement Sara.

All that nonsense about casting a new character made no sense when they clearly established that Ronnie was the prime candidate, but hasn't been seen since Sara's last appearance where she put "Good Luck" on her CSI vest nametag, and put it in Ronnie's locker.

Makes no sense that they would try to find someone else, and let Ronnie just disappear since that episode without explanation.

The thing is, the Ronnie character was pre-strike, and pre- shortened season. And also pre-"decision to let Gary go". A lot may have changed in the interim: The actress may no longer be interested/available, the producers may want to go in a different direction since they now have two characters/actors to replace, the long lay-off may have led them to rethink a number of elements of the series even without the problems with Gary/Warrick. I wouldn't make any assumptions based on where things were before the strike hit, when all anybody was thinking about was eventually replacing Jorja.

Also don't forget that William Peterson has only signed a one-year contract extension, and that for fewer than 24 episodes, so next year they may face the possibility of either wrapping up the series and going out on top or replacing Gil Grissom as the head of the night shift as well as replacing Sara and Warrick.

According to that Ausiello guy at TV Guide, they are no longer looking for a Warrick replacement, whose character was to be named Ray Santoro.

Also, yes next season is rumored to be the final season, which honestly would be good because that would be 9 years of top ratings and top quality. What better time to go out? If it goes on, great. If not, that's great too.

Perhaps Jessica Lucas (Ronnie) is looking toward film now that Cloverfield struck gold and for those who haven't seen it yet: (spoiler added based on recent comments about how discussions can go off-topic and into spoiler territory for other films/shows mentioned briefly like this very moment actually ) Warning: Spoiler! Lucas' character DID survive pretty much unharmed so there's always the possibility of her appearing in the eventual sequel.

Same here. As much as I enjoy the show, I think it would be great if the characters solve Warrick's murder (which is easily the most personal case they've ever had) and then the show called it quits on their own rather than let the series run on until the original cast is gone or the audience tunes out.

Yeah, but that doesn't work for those of us who do most if our forum surfing using the Top 30 Posts link. I accidentally found out the ending in the middle of watching the show tonight (despite my best efforts to skip over topics).

Of course, that happened after this episode was shot, and after the decision not to renew his contract. The underlying drug problem may have been the cause, but the arrest certainly wasn't. (And for the record he does deny having a drug problem and that the drugs in his car were his. Otherwise known as the Lindsay Lohan defense. )

Well, this opens the door for a variety of stories. Instead of the usual serial killer every 2 seasons, maybe it will be like this:

If Worrick dies, and Billy Peterson is in his final year, they could make it his obsession to find the highest mole in the LVPD. Grissom may not want to play politics, I don't believe his character is naive. It would involve putting his life in danger with the LVPD (he's no stranger to that). Of course uncovering all this may make him no longer able to work as a CSI in LV or at all and may decide to retire after solving this case.

The episode was probably shot around the end of April but the decision for them to part ways would have been reached before that (and before his arrest).

If they were actually shooting the episode at the time Gary was arrested, it had been written well in advance and the decision about his future would already have been made. The rumors were out about that weeks before his arrest, probably partly inspired by the contents of the final script.

I mentioned before in a spoiler tag that the idea was to have him appear from time to time next season. Now, if that was a misdirection from the writers, then it means he's dead. We are assuming he is dead, but look at where he was shot, as well as the entire closing scene - he was shot twice, first in his neck and is still conscious by episode's end. It's not like Speedle in the CSI: Miami season 3 opener where we see him actually die.

Bringing him back could be true to an extent, if they only do it for the season premiere, have him hospitalized and then die. Then the writers' misdirection would only be the 'appear from time to time' part.

I don't think he's dead yet. The only thing missing was a "To Be Continued" at the end.
