When is Legend coming out in HD???

What's the deal? I heard Legend is slated for a release in HD, but the rumor has been laying low for a few months now. Shouldn't we be hearing about possible release date? Universal should bank on this title, because it's all money for them. I'm sorry, but this is one film I'm dying to see in HD, because it's just a beautiful film, and my standard dvd already looks stunning. Ridley Scott's crowning achievement.

I don't recall ever seeing it on any release schedule (rumored or otherwise) but I wouldn't hold my breath for it especially after seeing how many times it was rumored to be hitting SD DVD and then not seeing a release date. This film always seems to get the run-around.

I heard 9/18, along with Cat People. Obviously that didn't happen (and Cat People got indefinitely delayed).

I was told Universal was set to release the THEATRICAL cut -- yes, the short U.S. version -- and not Ridley Scott's original version which was painstakingly restored for the Special Edition 2-disc set.

Apparently this did not sit well with Scott and the set was delayed.

Hopefully they'll give us both versions, or at least Scott's original restored version, when the HD-DVD does eventually come out.

Given the alternative -- that we were only going to get the cut U.S. version -- I'd say the delay was a very good thing.

Maybe they will do a Ridley Scott lovefest and release Legend with Blade Runner around x-mas...

Gues we won't be seeing Alien out on HD DVD anytime soon... too bad. Guess I will just have to settle for the Quadrology box set until the war is over. Thankfully it looks awesome upconverted on the HD A1.

Unfortunately, it's probably a title whereby, you could substitute at least a couple of hundred other titles, and ask the same question.

Any news on this title? I had a chance to see the Theatrical Cut on HDNet and it looked great. Far better than the DVD, even when it came to the monochromatic snow scenes. The colorful forest scenes were vibrant and detailed. I did not detect any DNR. I just hope with the awareness Universal should have at this point with the public's aversion to noise reduction gone amuck, coupled with Ridley's already good track record with his moves in HD, we should get something good on Blu-Ray the first time out. Of course, it will have to include both cuts and all the extras that were on the Ultimate DVD edition.

 

And now for some controversy-- anyone here prefer the Tangerine Dream soundtrack? While I am a huge fan of Jerry Goldsmith and prefer Ridley's cut of Legend, I still find the Theatrical soundtrack superior. As usual for me, my nostalgia for movies from my youth often trumps the popular opinion.
