The Complete Pink Floyd Collection in November?

Granted, this is just Wikipedia, and the first I'm reading about it, but here you go:

Quote:
In November of 2007, Pink Floyd will release a new CD box set containing all fourteen studio albums newly remastered with original vinyl artwork plus new artwork from Storm Thorgerson. In addition there will be a DVD featuring the individual members of the band discussing the 40th anniversary and landmarks of their career.

Re: The Complete Pink Floyd Collection in November?

This should be interesting. Though, a lot of Floyd fans fall into two groups: those who like it all and those who really like the post Barrett band. Still it should be a nice collection and re mastering is always fun to listen to since we always can compare to previous releases and notice the differences ( If any ).

The rerelease of the Traveling Wilburys sounded fine even though many of us were worried about extra compression in this era of LOUD CDS with no Dynamic range. Not gonna happen with PF though

Now if they could get some more of the catalog out on SACD. I know it is an almost dead format, but man it can sound great!

Yeah, if there was ever a band made for SACD, it was Pink Floyd.

Something like this would be great if it was done in SACD, but I don't really want the entire collection enough to spring for a 14 album box set in standard CD format.

Re: The Complete Pink Floyd Collection in November?

I don't need to upgrade all my old CDs, but I'd be all over SACD editions of WYWH, The Wall, and Animals.

HINT HINT!!!

Re: The Complete Pink Floyd Collection in November?

New remasters? At least on Steve Hoffman's forum, it's the original releases that get the nod over even the recent remasters for the best sound quality. Too many remasters are tweaked too much compared to the original releases in terms of NoNoise, compression, limiting, eq'ing, etc.

Re: The Complete Pink Floyd Collection in November?

i'd even buy this in the dreaded dual disc format, just to have the dvd-a. As it is, I'm not a big enough fan to pick this one up, unless it's on sale cheap.

Re: The Complete Pink Floyd Collection in November?

A 40 year anniversary Piper at the Gates of Dawn was just released in a two and three disk edition. It is getting rave reviews over at the Hoffman board. Both include the mono and stereo version and the three disk includes a CD of rare songs. There is also a rumor that there will be more 40 year anniversary issues with Saucer next. My 3 disk Piper is on its way from Amazon, and I can't wait until it gets here. I've never heard the mono version, as I've always had the "A Nice Pair" collection.

Re: The Complete Pink Floyd Collection in November?

This seems something of a missed opportunity to me as I already have the 'Shine On' boxset and there's no guarantee of a jump in quality with this new set . Why didn't they match the 'Doors' CD/Dvd-A boxset for example ? All bases covered in one move

Because they can bilk you on a CD set, then again on another set.

I don't see any need to upgrade either. Having worn my old vinyl out as a young kid, any new releases would likely get a once over and be filed. I have surpassed saturation level on this catalogue many times over.

Re: The Complete Pink Floyd Collection in November?

I always thought the division was Pre DSOTM and post...
and Im sure every year for a few years on we will get a 40th Anniversary edition of each title in Chron order

If they are all as good the Piper 40th anniversary set, that would be awesome.

Re: The Complete Pink Floyd Collection in November?

Ugh, skip the box set and deliver "WYWH" on SACD...this is getting ridiculous, this has been rumored for years!!!

Sums up my sentiments entirely. I just about have all the albums on CD already, and I don't think I'm enough of an audiophile to want remastered upgrades on CD, but SACD or DVD-A would make me bite (even if that means double-dipping DSotM on SACD).

Or for that matter (sorry, off-topic), how about a complete set of Queen's albums on hi res? I'd buy that too...

Re: The Complete Pink Floyd Collection in November?

Here's a Billboard blurb on the box set:

http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/news/..._id=1003663687

December 4. 16 discs encompassing all 14 studio albums ("Ummagumma" & "The Wall" being 2 disc sets). Limited run of 10,000. Only available as an import in the US. Expensive. Already ranked at #261 in Music on Amazon.

Hmmm. Amazon is also listing a 17-disc "Pink Floyd Mini Vinyl Studio Box Set" at $235 being released the same day. No other details.

Re: The Complete Pink Floyd Collection in November?

What a rip.

It's not complete since it skips the live releases, a big sin due to Floyds reputation as a live act.

No bonus materials like the 40th Anniversary "Pipers" set had.

This should cost no more then $100 tops really. It's not like they're catalog is out of print.
