Overview and Film Information

"Bulletproof" is pretty much your typical action comedy type film. "Bulletproof" stars Adam Sandler and Damon Wayons, two best friends and car thieves/criminals who are looking to step up to drug smuggling. The only problem is that Keats (Wayons) is actually a undercover cop looking to bust Moses (Sandler). During a somewhat botched attempt to bring Moses and his cohorts in, things go bad and Moses accidentally shoots Keats in the head. The twist is that he survives thus the title "Bulletproof". This film is not the best written or best directed or even best acted and is somewhat over the top & unbelievable majority of the time, but it is a decent film to set back and enjoy for what it is, and that is mostly comedy.

Video Quality ***.5 out of *****

The video quality of Bulletproof is some good and some bad. Universal has provided Bulletproof in it's original aspect ratio of 2.35:1 and as usual encoded with VC1 at 1080p/24. The main issue with Bulletproof is what I would refer to as what "seems" to be a dated master. Masters completed during the early days of the process where somewhat mushy and less detailed/natural than today's "top of the game" studio masters, this seems to be the issue with Bulletproof. Detail, contrast ratio and blacks are pretty good throughout albeit a slightly mushy look to all three. The color palette is very good to excellent, bordering a few times on oversaturated. One huge issue I have with this release is edge enhancement, yes! once again EE raises it's ugly head and in the case of Bulletproof it hovers around the area of being annoying, sadly this takes away even more detail from this film. My final issue is what seems to be a slight y/c delay with this release, my guess would be master related but no way to confirm that. I have seen far worse, but Bulletproof could have been better, I give it a 3.5 on video.

Audio Quality **** out of *****

Bulletproof is a comedy but does have lots of action elements added in, so the Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 track is rather enjoyable and surprising in some cases. I was really pleased with this track in every regard. The sound field was very precise and realistic, bass and LFE was tight, clean and LOW!! Dialog was very very good, but could be a smidge better. This is a solid soundtrack for this film, an easy 4 stars on audio.

Extra Features and Menus ** out of *****

There are no extra features on this release. Menu's are Universal's new style (with opening flying HD-DVD logo) and are fabulous in every way, easy to navigate and well laid out, I particularly like the scene selection menu with the image resizing.

Overall *** out of *****

I wouldn't expect this disc to be a hot seller (nor anyone else I would think), it is what it is, a decent action comedy flick with average video and very good audio. Those looking for special features need to look elsewhere though.
