Most, if not all, new laptops (I assume it is a new model) use a Lithium Ion (Li-Ion) battery which does not have to be periodically discharged and can be plugged into an AC outlet indefinitely without causing any harm. These batteries have a longer life and are more stable than Ni-Cad and NiHM batteries used in the past. They can be overcharged, but the batteries contain built-in circuitry which monitors the battery's condition and prevents this. Personally, I leave my laptop plugged in until I travel, so it may go months at a time without being removed from an AC current.
